Thread painting explained

Wednesday, December 21, 2016

Thread painting is literally painting with thread. I am an artist rather than a seamstress (machines hate me so this will be an interesting journey! LOL) I have plans for painting portions of my paintings with thread. I already am doing that with hand needlework, this would be added in as well, for larger pieces. This is done on the machine. This particular piece I used 5 colors of thread to do the horn. You sort of "blend" them. Then after that I quilted the piece. You can see a bit of the free motion quilting on the close up. Hope this helps explain it better.

That is beautiful! I've never heard of thread painting before. Seems like a lot of patience is needed to do it. Something I'm sorely lacking at this point in time.

It looks complicated. I looked it up and there are so many different ways to do thread painting. I watched a machine one with tulle and a thread dipped into paint and "squiggled" out from under a book. Then I see one that is hand done like embroidery. Interesting.
