Healthy Choices

Sunday, November 20, 2016

Like many of you, I have tried and failed to lose weight more times than I can count. In the past, a setback was a reason to give up; obviously, I'm doomed to be fat forever. Then, I found sparkpeople & realized it was possible & I wasn't alone. As many of you know, I just lost my Dad. Perfect reason to fall off the wagon, if ever there was one. But, I haven't. It's the WHY I haven't that I'd like to share. He died from an accumulation of the consequences of poor health choices, ultimately resulting in kidney failure. He developed high blood pressure at 40, gout at 45. Did he change his diet? No. He developed diabetes at 50. Did he answer that wake up call? No. Then, there's me. I developed high blood pressure at 40, bad knees as 45. Sound familiar? I had blood work done a year ago before I started spark. My kidney function test was in the low normal range for someone my age. I just had it done again a few weeks ago. My kidney function rate now? That of a 17 year old. The moral to this story? Becoming a committed member of spark people doesn't just mean a temporary weight loss. It means a change in health habits that leads to a much better quality of life. Have a great day & thanks for reading!
