Day 9 of 10min/day of exercise + Day 2 of eating right

Tuesday, October 25, 2016

I haven't blogged much in a while. With a full-time job, six kids and a husband, I've been a little busy. My weight has been up and down, depending on the week. I'm trying really hard to stay motivated again. My husband doesn't have the dedication I have to eating right and exercising, so battling the poor influences has been challenging. I get tired of saying, "no" to treats and being the Debbie Downer, so I've given in quite a bit to poor eating habits.

Family update: All six kids still live at home. Mikey is in his second year at UNO and really loves it. Patrick is in his first year at Methodist nursing school and also loves it. Neither one has any school debt yet, so them living at home is paying off. I also work with Mikey now. He's a pharmacy tech with me, which is interesting. He's a good worker, but the mom in me always comes out. Kind of weird sometimes. Mary is a junior and still active with band, journalism, and her many other activities. She's trying winter swim at the YMCA, but has had trouble with swimmer's ear. Stevie is a freshman and is always active. He just finished cross country and will start basketball anytime. He wanted to do winter swim, but I had to tell him, "no." With basketball, followed by soccer and track, he just won't have time. Sean and Bridget are in fifth grade and have also signed up for winter swim. They are doing great! Sean also has basketball starting as well, so he won't make all the swim practices or meets, but he is learning a lot.

I'm still working full-time, but wish we could afford for me to be home more. With the kids doing swim team at the YMCA, I've gotten more time to workout. I've started using the weight machines there, which I absolutely love!! I also just jogged my second official 5K race. My time wasn't great, 38:30, but I jogged the whole way. I really haven't been training for a 5K and my exercising has been great some weeks, not so great other weeks.

Still working on getting hubby motivated to exercise too. It's hard because he feels sick all the time, but he feels sick all the time because he's unhealthy and needs to eat right and work out. I'll keep encouraging him. That's all I can do.

Today's workout will be at the YMCA: 10-15 min warm-up on a treadmill or elliptical, then the weight machines, then some stretching.

You're doing great just doing what you're doing!

I agree about the challenges when your DH doesn't eat the same way. Mine was always thin, so never felt he had to be careful, but as he approaches 50 he's feeling the results of a bad lifestyle. I think he's finally getting sick of adding pills to balance out his bad habits.
