Every day is a new day

Saturday, October 22, 2016

I've been in a real rut of inactivity lately, so I have come up with a new idea. I have a friend who is giving me a dry erase calendar, which will be helpful in many ways, but I have thought of a way to use it for weight loss as well. I am going to assign different colors to different healthy habits. Here's what I have so far:

8 glasses of water a day: BLUE (only if I meet the goal of 8 glasses a day)
Stayed with calorie range: RED
Exercised for at least 30 minutes: ORANGE
Strength training and stretch after workout: GREEN

I might try to add more habits once I get the system down, but that is the basics. I am also going to try and post a daily blog to track my efforts. Since I have more of a variety of colors/pictures here, I am going to assign different ones to the habits on here. Here's what I have for the blog so far:

I have faith that this will work well, but I also have another idea. I was throwing a ball for my dog earlier and noticed my arms jiggle A LOT. I am going to take a short video of my arms jiggling and look at that whenever I want a soda or sweets. Dr. Pepper is my main enemy when it comes to weight loss. I also am a great lover of chocolate. I'm hoping once I see the video of how much I need to work on myself, that will give me the motivation to turn away from bad habits. I have a very good feeling about this and I will let you know how I am doing along the way. Until next time!

Visual reminders are great! May I suggest that instead of, or in addition to, the jiggly arms video, you also have a visual pic somewhere of a toned arm? We tend to become what we focus on and having a positive visual of where you're headed might help keep you focused in that direction rather than re-enforcing something you already don't like about yourself.

When I was learning about self-talk, they gave an example to show how our minds work. When we say, "I'm not going to the beach today." What does our mind visualize? The beach. Our minds focus on the subject and doesn't recognize the's no's, nots, don'ts. So it's better to say, Today, I'm going to the park. Then our minds see the park, and not the beach.

I'd encourage you to focus on what you want to become and not what you are trying to get rid of. When you look in the mirror, I bet you are always going to see jiggles in your arm, even when fully toned, because that's what you're looking for. Instead, look for any hint of firmness and if you can't see any, tell yourself, we're gonna get there. We often see what we're looking for, even when it doesn't match reality. That's why so many who DO lose the weight look in the mirror and still see themselves as fat. You want to be able to look in the mirror and see the beauty that is really there.

Nice to see your enthusiasm. emoticon emoticon

I also have a white board that stands in the living room to remind me of what to do. It can be a real help.
