Balance is Hard

In January of this year, I was hired as a full time teacher. I went from being an assistant who got to walk away at the end of the day, to the teacher whose job it seems never ends. I'm finding my gym time is suffering and my eating is suffering as well. I don't get home, some days, till almost 8 PM (days I do make it to the gym). Other days I'm at work till 6 PM, which means I can't make a CrossFit class at my gym.

I'm struggling with balance and setting boundaries. I need to set the rule at work that I walk out the door by 5 PM, no matter what. That guarantees I make the 6:30 class. I also need to see if I can get my husband to help with meal prep. He does the cooking and when I try to suggest we get some things ready in advance, he tells me it will be my responsibility to do all the cooking. I'm not complaining, because his cooking helps a lot. However, there have been a lot of days when he doesn't cook and I'm left scrambling at 7:30 at night to figure something out for dinner. This usually results in a Chipotle trip.

I'm also finding I'm drinking a little more now. I don't feel like I have any down time and I guess I feel this is how I relax? I need to taper this again, but it's hard when I work, workout, and then do some more work at home before bed. I'm not really getting any down time, which I'm finding I really do need.

Goals for the rest of the month of October:
1. Leave work at 5 PM.
2. Make the 6:30 CrossFit class or workout on my own.
3. Take a half hour of down time before bed. Watch TV or read a book.

That's it...anymore and I'll probably overwhelm myself.

    Balance is hard to achieve. I'm glad that you realize you need to fight for it and that you have concrete ideas of how to achieve it for yourself.

    You must keep to your plan and no alcohol consumption on your schedule. Alcohol will only slow you down. I support you on your plan. Best wishes to you. WooHoo!

    It's good to set small attainable goals so you don't get overwhelmed. Good for fit recognizing when/where you need help and boundaries. Best of luck to you😃

    I love the goals. You need to absolutely set boundaries. And the meals need worked out before shopping. They make it easier to have quicker on hand meals. Some people do meal prep on weekends to have ready to go at the right time. Stand firm.

    I have started batch cooking on the weekend. It helps to not think about dinners during the week. Stay strong. Those boundaries will help you be a better teacher, wife, and person. Health is worthy of being a priority.
