Hmmmmmm

Wednesday, September 21, 2016

I've been thinking about this for awhile now. You know how we all say "the weight comes on faster than it comes off?" Well, I really don't think we've thought that through.

I've lost 40 pounds since February. That's 8 months. I've never gained 40 pounds in 8 months, not even when I was pregnant. Sure, it's possible. But I would guess most of us don't gain more than 10-29 pounds in a year.

Has the weight fallen off? Nope. It's been hard work to lose 40 pounds. Hard, but so worth it! It has been steady. And really slow. It's an average of just over a pound a week. But I've been consistent. That's the key. When I've been up a few ounces, I remind myself that it is less than a pound and make sure I'm tracking my food again.

So what is my point? That we can all do this. Just find what works for you (for me it's weight watchers) and stick with it.

It took me 61 years to put on 295lbs and it's taken me 18 months to lose 93lbs. However when we went to Florida in March this year I put on 14lbs in 2 weeks (and we didn't go mad with our food). People put on and lose at different rates, what we all need to do is live healthy lives doing any exercise we are capable of and eating healthy food. Good luck on our onward journeys.

Of course it CAN be done, but I don't think it is typical for most of us to do that. I'm speaking from my perspective and I have gained 20 in a year. But then I gain another 10-15 the next year and so it goes and adds up. It is more fun to ear and drink and gain weight than it is to track our food, measure our portions and make choices. So it seems like it goes on faster (a.k.a. easier) than it is to lose it.

You could gain 40 pounds in 8 months but my net is that you have never tried. I have known wrestlers and boxers who have put on 10 pounds in two weeks to be comfortable at a higher weight class. Not healthy but can be done
