In mid July, I sprained my right index finger really bad. The doctor told me it could take weeks or even months for it to completely heal but wanted me to use it and gave me exercises to do.
My first reaction was there goes crocheting and strength training and all my hard work but I quickly said "NO". My legs and core are not affected by the injury. I spoke with my trainer and she agreed. She immediately started working routines that should not affect the finger/hand. Every week we would try holding weights to see what I could handle. In the beginning, I couldn't. Last week, I was able to hold a heavier weight to do squats and sit ups on a bosu ball.
In the meantime, I decided to try an experiment for the month of August to see if I could challenge myself a little more than I was doing. My new goals were to get in a minimum of 10,000 steps every day and a minimum of 50 active minutes using my Fitbit to reach this goal. I even weighed myself to see how these new goals would affect it.
I missed my minimum 10,000 steps - 3 days and had a monthly average of 12,864 steps per day.
I missed my minimum of 50 minutes - 2 days and had a monthly average of 88 minutes per day.
My weight - well........ had a small gain of 1 lb. But that could be attributed to anything from muscle gain, the types of food I had over the last couple of days, emotional stress, etc. Not too worried at this time. I'm thinking it could be related more to emotional stress since, the news of my Dad's health declining.
Overall, I am pleased with the results but know I could do better. Now that the finger is getting better more strength training will come back and getting back to Yoga class.
My September goals, I am going to add in more strength training along with continuing with the August goals except making my minimum active minutes 60 minutes instead of 50 minutes and minimum of 10,000 steps.
Oh, this is the first week, I could crochet without a lot of pain (this helps me to be stress free).
What are your goals for September?
