I was a little kid who didn't like to eat. I know, right? I was skinny and sadly, my mother thought that was a bad reflection on her as a mother. Sooooooo, she took me to a doctor at age 5 or 6 to get me pills to increase my appetite. They worked and then I was a normal weight instead of skinny. THEN my grandparents invited me to spend a week with them at Easter vacation when I was in 2nd grade at the Ivanhoe on the Beach hotel in Miami Beach. They were large people and plied me with peanut butter, crackers, cookies, etc etc etc. I went home heavier. So much so that the first thing out of my mother's mouth was something like, "Look how much weight you've gained!" After that it was always a battle to not be overweight. In high school I looked great but I was really active and ate next to nothing. After that my story is the same as so many others - gained weight, lost weight, gained more weight, tried every diet known to mankind and never felt thin again.
At this point, I don't want to be thin (well, it WOULD be ok) but I want to be healthy and fitter than I am now. I want to be flexible and want to enjoy my retirement to the max. I am on Sparkpeople every day because it makes a huge difference in my awareness of what I'm putting in my mouth and how much I'm moving.
So, stay tuned for the ups and downs that are part of life. I'll check in from time to time and let you know how it's going
The theories? Little kids shouldn't be given medication to make them eat. I got fat cells then that are now part of me and impact everything.
