Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Light the Night Walk

Monday, August 01, 2016

It has been a while since I have posted anything! I will be done my Associates in Accounting in 2 weeks! I can't wait!!! I will have more free time again. I hurt my toe two months ago, but it is finally better. I can workout at the gym again woohoo!

My Mom was recently diagnosed with T-cell lymphoma. She has her third chemo treatment this Friday. It is really hard on her and my Father. Actually, it is really difficult for me as well and for the rest of my family. I was trying to think of a way to help besides what I am already doing. I am trying to help her and my Dad out as much as I can. I found a local walk for the Leukemia & Lymphoma society which is local to me.

I created team Rose Garden to help support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and their Light The Night Walk. There are many different walks all throughout the US. I am walking in one local to me on 10/8. I am trying to think of some fundraising ideas to get more money donated to my team. I am going to have a game tournament at my house for some of my friends. The winner will get a prize and the entry fees will be donated to the LLS.

Thanks to research, survival rates for patients with many blood cancers have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled since the early 1960s. Cures for many patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and Hodgkin lymphoma have been achieved, and the five-year survival rate for children with ALL has jumped from 3 percent to approximately 90 percent over the past 50 years. The survival rate for myeloma patients more than tripled in the past decade. Yet, despite these advances, about one third of patients with a blood cancer still do not survive even five years after their diagnosis.

If anyone is interested in donating, please visit my page: http://pages.lightthenight.org

All donations will go directly to the LLS, and your help will further research.

I am very sorry to hear your Mum is ill, Kim! My dad had chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and sadly passed away 8 years ago. Taking part in the walk is a great idea - all the best with that and your last exams! Look after yourself too, dear - important!

I'm sorry that your mom (and the rest of your family) is going through that. It's great that you're looking for ways to help. Keeping her in my thoughts for full remission.

And congrats on the coming graduation and your toe healing!
