I am trying hard to avoid junk food and carbs but today has been a struggle. Shopping for more healthy choices was difficult because I was craving candy, chips, cookies, and bread. It was really hard to make myself resist all of those tempting foods that were all around me. But I did it. Not one high carb food made its way into my cart. On the flip side, I ate so little for breakfast and lunch that I began to feel jittery while I was shopping. I have already entered my dinner and today's snacks and my calorie intake is under 800. Since I am well below my minimum calorie goal of 1200 I might allow myself to eat a portion of the potatoes my daughter is making for dinner. I do not think she realizes how hard it is for me when she brings ice cream into the house right now.

    I'm a leader on the Living Low Carb team and one of the first things we recommend to folks starting out or starting back on low carb is to follow a plan. And most plans will tell you that going too low in calories is not a great idea. It's actually counter-productive, making your metabolism slow down just when you want it revved up.

    So shoot for 1500 or more calories a day. You'll actually lose faster, be less hungry/woozy, and have more energy, which helps you burn more calories - a "virtuous circle". Keep low carb snacks in your bag when you're shopping. And if you have cravings, drink some water and eat some fat - macadamia nuts are a perfect fix for all those situations!

    I always drink water as soon as I get up and throughout the day. Thank you so much for the helpful suggestion though. :)

    Drink a glass of water when you wake up it helps with the cravings
