Started my Plan

Monday, July 11, 2016

yesterday I met with my friend Scott and we started my exercise plan. Its a great combo of upper and lower body strength in a circuit to get my cardio up. I am to do the plan 4 days a week and do at least one day of 30 minutes of cardio and a pace higher than I have been used to. We went through and learned all the moves yesterday and surprisingly it wasn't too bad. I thought it was be a lot tougher. This first stretch is only 4 weeks and its designed just to get my body used to moving again. I found the push ups and tricep-ups were the hardest since I have never had a strong upper body so I am excited to fix that area.

I did have one problem and it was right at the beginning too emoticon I was doing the warm up which included high kicks across the parking lot. This is something I used to do in dance all the time so I felt way over confident. About the 4th one in I felt something go really strange in my hamstring. If I was a cartoon it would have made a big "TWANG" sound. I stretched it out for a bit and thought it would work it self out. Unfortunately last night and especially today it is extremely painful. I believe I pulled the muscle. I don't think I made a small tear, but the pain is strong so I'll have to see how it goes the next few days. I read to treat it like a sprain so lots of Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation.

I have injured myself at the beginning before, and it caused me to give up and stop. But I don't want that to happen this time. I will take it easy on the exercises that focus on the hamstring and just go more with the upper body and core exercises. I just don't want to give up anymore. I only have 4 weeks until the program is up graded so I don't have to time to just wait it out. They always say there is exercises to do around an injury and that's just what I'm going to have to do today.

If you have any advice on how to help heal a hamstring I'd love to hear it!
