A New Home for Scout
Tuesday, June 07, 2016
Yesterday our friend was able to catch our cat Scout and put her in her crate. Then he took her and a big bag of her food to his friend's farm where he opened the crate door inside the barn and watched her scamper up into the hay mow. The farmer there has other cats and he agreed to take care of Scout as she adjusts to her new life as a semi-feral farm cat/mouser. She will be a good hunter on the farm because she proved that to us when she brought mice to her kittens showing them how to eat from nature's bounty.
We miss her, but we know she will be happy at the farm and will help control the rodent population there in the barn and the surrounding area. This farmer likes cats and feeds them to make sure they don't go hungry. Scout never allowed us to domesticate her completely. She would barely allow us to touch her. She liked our dog Milo though, and we can tell that he misses her because he looked for her last night and again this morning. We're giving him some extra attention which makes all of us all feel better about giving Scout away, but with our inability to manage her care as an inside cat we found the best home for her that we could.
