Shopping My Pantry
Sunday, June 05, 2016
I am becoming determined to shop my pantry. My motivation is both financial and driven by limited storage space. My goal is to buy things to go with what I have on hand, which should mostly involve fresh fruits and vegetables!
An inventory of what I have on hand:
Proteins: 2 types of lentils, chic pea powder (suitable for making pancakes, gravy or to thicken soup), a variety of nuts/seeds (almonds, cashews, pecans, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, etc.), 1/4# peanut butter, a bag of split peas for soup, and 1 can of hummus. I also have some cheese sauce powder and canned fish for the flexitarian in me.
Starches: a few types of rice, several types of pasta, quinoa, instant mashed potatoes, a few types of flour, 1/4c oats, some wheat germ, a small loaf of German bread and a small bag of roasted barley.
I also have a variety of condiments and oils, a few soup mixes and some dried fruit. Fortunately, I no longer have any candy or junk food tucked away. Therefore, I can do this without it conflicting with my greater goal of eating a healthy diet. I know I will have to be creative, but that actually appeals to me.
I am curious how long this stuff will last me, with only the addition of fresh produce. (I will be traveling locally for work from June 27-July 16, so will not be able to make any progress during that time).
I am taking it as a challenge, and will try to keep you posted when I have finished my whole stash!
