Two more days and nights

Saturday, May 21, 2016

Until Mum goes into Assisted Living. Sorry, but I am so darn beyond exhausted all I can do is cry. I'm tired, worn out, fed up, and burned out. Night 8 with just a few hours of broken sleep. It is so grossly unfair to leave the care of an elderly parent on the shoulders of ONE child, when I have a sister who isn't interested!

Oh Cheryl, I really feel for you, this is such a difficult situation. I believe that once your mom is settled in (let me warn you that it may take awhile...), you will begin to feel better. You are running on fumes now and need a break. The reality of many families is that it is often one sibling that takes the brunt of the burden, for whatever reason, be it geography, time, closeness to a parent, strong sense of responsibility, etc.
You owe it to yourself and your mom to take care of yourself as well. Big hugs to you. emoticon emoticon

I am hoping that you will get your strength back soon after some well-deserved rest. I have a very difficult time imagining how a sibling can just let all responsibility fall on your shoulders. Know that you are doing the very best you can and that your Mom will be well cared for in a facility made just for this very soon. None of this is your fault and you have definitely done the best you can with NO help from your sister.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I can feel your pain and frustration. I am an only child and have had some issues with my mom's retirement placement after a serious fire where she has been for 4 years. It is awfully hard.
I know you are even more frustrated and upset by your sister's indifference. I can only recommend taking the high road, or try to have an open conversation with her, but know that you can't change her unless she is willing.
