So you want to be the biggest loser

Thursday, May 12, 2016

I'm sure lots of you have read the article about the former contestants and the weight they have gained back. The sad reality is that rapid weight loss does a real number on your metabolism. The contestants they studied showed a dramatic drop in their calorie burn. Close to 500 calories a day. So no wonder they gained weight back. They would have to eat a restricted diet to just not gain. Losing 1/2 pound a week might sound like a snail's pace but in years to come you could maintain your weight loss on a normal diet. I'm so happy that my metabolism is chugging along and I can eat pretty much without gaining. But then there was the $250,000. Some people might be willing to trade eating for the rest of your life for that.

it is sad to hear how most of them gained their weight back. Aren't our metabolisms weird? Some people struggle to maintain the weight they are at and some of us can't seem to lose weight for tryin!

Definitely a life process. I've slowed down to the speed of life 🐒 Just joined April. Had been informing my self. Was kicking in the front door of 300lbs 3 years ago. πŸ‘‡ to the 260s now and I will keep 🐒ling along 4the rest of my life. Thanks

I agree, snail's pace would be wiser.

I honestly didn't like the name of the show. It was amazing what the contestants accomplished while still being overweight.

It's sad when people want to change their lives and end up making them worse, not better. I would like to see further study done on the results though. There are BL contestants who have maintained their losses.

But slow and steady wins in my book!

I think the biggest loser is exploitative, unhealthy, and gives lots of people plenty of awful ideas about how to lose weight. I very much dislike the show and it's not something I watch.

Is like to see BL follow a LC/Keto diet and see if that worked better for ling term results and metabolism. It's sad they worked so hard to end up with such a mess.

Everyone wants fast results, and some people get a high from extreme behavior and weight loss. It's just not sustainable for most of us. I always said it took me a lifetime to put weight on, I'm not concerned if it takes a while to drop it.

Yep. $250,000 wouldn't even buy me a cracker box house here. I'll take a happy, healthy life instead ^_^

After taxes, they probably have the price of a Big Mac left. I will never understand why these people submit to that kind of punishment just for short-term weight loss.
