Moving Forward and Beyond Part 3

Wednesday, May 04, 2016

Mode 6 gave me the steps to define problems :

1 Define Problem & Set Realistic Goals

2 Generate Alternative List at least 3 Solutions

3 Select solutions that best will work for you

4 Carry out plan & Evaluate outcome

Tips When describing problem Is it Solvable? Is the problem real (is it fact or is it an assumption ) Avoid common thinking mistakes. Seek out the FACTS!

1 My Financial issues (income, bills and credit state)

2 Job situation (work not enough hours and fear of the store closing)

3 Dental health issues

4 Transportation

5 Housing

Now these are my problems as I see them . Some are just in my mind my worries .

1 & 2 Money there are weeks I don't get enough hours at work Bills like Electric and water have been very high I have been work on the work situation

I have been crossed trained in other departments I do back up customer service and back up cashier in Pharmacy. I can see about other departments as well. I don't really see the store shutting down. Plus I can always transfer to another one

Last month Electric and water bills were lowest they have ever been Landlord finally got a few things fixed I will see how this months bills go this may not be a issue any longer .

Credit card debit is a little crazy for me 3 credit cards to max

3 Dental health it is a real issue I only have 2 teeth of uppers left other ones fell out on their own.

4. Transportation not really an issue I can continue what I have veen doing over year public transportation and my bike .

5 Housing I don't really think that's a real issue as I always pay my rent early I have never been late I moved in here Nov 2014. Landlord never got a complaint from the neighbors or code .

Goals Need to get out of debit (so I will feel more secure ) Find a way / place to for low cost dental

Solution: A could always try to get insure in my VA disability
B Not use the credit cards to live on
C put money away every month into saving account and keep it there.

Solution A could work against me that's not an option
Solution B Credit cards lock them up and not use them very plausible
Solution C Yes that one I will go with Especially since June I will have 3 pay checks I should start getting a head on that month. I'm pretty sure I will be able to put my VA disability money in savings to save for a rainy day.

Goal Look into other positions at work place I have just started my 10th year there so I don't want to change jobs and start all over.

Solution : A Cross train in other area's of the store
B Update career preference
C Look at the veteran's employment service's

I don't mind working in garden center I can add that to my career preference Haven't really been crossed trained there but I do get sent out there to help out Will update my career prefence with Garden center cashier and Pharmacy cashier /OTC

Right now I don't think there is a way for my dental issues once I have some money put away I will be able to have dental work done It all comes down to MONEY . Must work on the first goal first then I will be able to take care of of problems

I wish I had found these blogs earlier!! My husband is also a disabled vet and I think this course would be a lot of help to him. Is it on the VA website? emoticon to you and hoping you can find a way to put everything in perspective.

I have just read over your 3 blogs on moving forward and beyond and really like what you learned in the course. Thanks for describing it so well! It is impressive to see you dealing with your issues and setting priorities, especially after such a major loss. I agree with the previous post, is there not something you can get from the VA for dental work? Stay strong, you are really an inspiration! emoticon

Love your list and love the way you set reasonable, attainable goals for yourself. Very smart. Does the VA offer any kind of help with dental? We only ever used for VA loan to buy house. But can't hurt to inquire. You got this!
