It is Raining Again!
Thursday, March 31, 2016
It is raining again and looks so drab and gray outside. I am standing here watching the rain fall and wishing for sunny days.
Cold rainy days mean staying inside where work is waiting. I want to be outside walking and moving around. Here, my desk keeps calling my name and the overload of work keeps piling up. There is so much more interesting things happening outside. Winter weather and rainy days mean using the stairs for exercise instead of going for a hike, it means setting a timer for every 30 minutes to make sure I get up and walk the floor to stay active; it means drinking tons of water because the washroom breaks ensure I get up and move. On that one, I use the washrooms on another floor just to get some more steps in. It is hard to reach my minimum step goal when the weather is gloomy. I would rather have warm sunny days, where I can go for a hike, or walk the dogs and climb hills.
I have signed up for my usual 2 races this year, the Ottawa Race weekend 10K in May and the Canada Army Run in September. This year both days will be an added challenge. The 10K day, because the motorcycle group I belong to is hosting a charity ride on the same day and doing both will be a push. The ride should be finished by 16:00 and I should be able to get to the run start for 18:00. Might be a little tight but I think I can do it. This year the Canada Army Run has a new challenge called the Commanders Challenge. It is to complete both a 5K and a half marathon in the same day. I have signed up for this and am looking forward to completing it. As I will be walking both, I do not see it being an issue as long as I can walk at my speed. Anyway, it will be fun to see how it goes. Training will start very soon, as soon as the weather clears up enough to let me seriously get out and get moving. I have a plan, just waiting for the weather to implement. Actually, my active training plan actually starts tomorrow, rain or shine.
It is not that I have not been active this winter; I have been walking 5 to 10K daily all winter. It is just that as spring arrives, it is too wet in the cold rain to get out. This brings me back to my original statement, it is raining again today and forecasted to rain right through to Sunday. Oh well, guess I will be using the stairs here at work to keep on moving.
