tick tock, tick tock......

I haven't blogged in a bit. The end of the month is almost here! Easter is just around the corner too!
I've had a busy month at work, trying to hire staff for one of our smaller offices in a nearby town. Lots of commuting between offices. We are almost there!!! Yippee! I will be glad when someone is hired and things get back on track.
I've also had many things going on this month. Heck, I always seem to have many things going on. I am one of those people who believe in doing things. I have several friends who say "wow, I can't believe you went to that concert, or did whatever it was". I learned that life is short and there will never ever be enough time! If there is something I want to do and I have a way to do it, I do!
Last night it was seeing Elton John. My daughter has never seen him in concert. Elton is not a spring chicken anymore! One of his 8 stops in the US happened to be my home town! So I bought cheap seat tickets for my daughter and I. Now getting my 12,000 steps in was going to be tricky. I didn't get up and walk in the morning as I had an early meeting. It was pouring rain, so no walk on lunch hour. By the end of the work day I had a mere 6,000 steps. I planned on going home and squeezing a couple miles in on the treadmill between work and the concert..... and then my daughter called and asked if I wanted to grab something to eat with her. I don't get much daughter one on one time with her so of course I took her up on that opportunity which meant no walking on the treadmill. We had supper and headed to the arena
We parked about four blocks away. It was still raining quite hard and blowing wind. We opted to take the skywalks to the arena. We were quite a ways away when the foot traffic in the skywalk came to a screeching halt. People were lined up for blocks to get into the arena. We had over an hour for the show to start, so we stood in line. We slowly shuffled closer. As we were nearing the entrance, we could hear the music starting! We missed the opening song! They only had two metal detectors set up at that entrance and it was really slowing things down.
Anyhow, Sir Elton put on an awesome show. We mainly stayed in our seats, singing and chair dancing to hit after hit. When the show ended we walked back to our car. I had a mere 9,500 steps on the fitbit. Uhoh. By the time I drove my daughter home and got home it was 11:40. I was wide awake. I quickly got on the treadmill hoping to maybe get in that 12,000 steps! Tick tock, the race against the clock began. I walked until a minute or two after midnight. When I synced my steps I was at 11,576. So close, but so far away! I simply ran out of time. Good intentions - but didn't get there.
However, time with my daughter trumps steps on the fitbit. I wouldn't have changed a thing.... ok, maybe one thing... I may have made more of an effort to get up extra early to get some in in the morning but I truly felt I was going to figure out a way.
Lesson learned? Expect the unexpected. Get it done as soon as you can, don't procrastinate! And if all else fails, begin again.
So, my 12,000 step per day streak has come to an end and today I start another. Let's see how long I can keep this one going!
