The heart of Positivity

Wednesday, March 16, 2016

Hello to all of you beautiful Spark friends! I was just telling a friend of mine how I'd planned on spending more time on Spark, yet I've been distancing myself from the internet. Another Spark friend decided to take 2016 and make it a year of no distractions - meaning no internet or tv at all! We've been writing and she's doing fabulous & full of creativity. I'm a bit jealous. But, not ready to cut all ties yet :) So, the goal is to get on here every couple of weeks to check in & see what's happening.

So, I spent 4 glorious days in Nashville with a girlfriend - walking around the city & sitting in bars listening to live music. It was fabulous. But then I came home - and managed to fall off my front stoop and break my foot. The emergency clinic gave me a boot and I'm going to the ortho doc tomorrow. But now I need help!

My hubby and I joined the YMCA in January and we've been going faithfully since then 5 or more nights a week. I get in 30 to 45 min of cardio and then do different weight machines. It's been great. Now mind you, I haven't lost any weight - sure that my age is fighting me & diet. I only seem to lose weight when I do strict Atkins and I just don't like doing that - I miss potatoes and fresh fruit... anyway, that's beside the point. I've been gaining energy and feeling much better with the exercise. But now? Heck, I'm scared! I guess I could do the pool though I HATE swimming laps. Like, despite them. For real. So, that's a back up, but what else? Obviously I can do machines for the weights, but I still need cardio. So, any ideas out there?

Other than that, life's been treating me just fine. We love being back in Landenberg though I do miss the Poconos and all the wild life. I am happy to be feeding my birds again - that was impossible in the mountains. The deer and bear thought bird feeders were for them alone. Work is good and spring is starting. I adore this time of year when everything gets green again.

I hope you are all doing well & enjoying life. Keep smiling and enjoy the day :) Oh, and try to stay positive even when life starts knocking you down!!! Love you!

Lovely to see you writing again. Sorry to hear about your foot - gosh, there is always something - but you sound like you have a game plan, or at least are working one out. Love, Debs x

Oh darn it! Sorry to hear about your foot!

All my suggestions have been shared - bike (both for your legs and the arm bicycle- if your Y has one of those machines), chair exercises, water aerobics SP library... Oh and how about a rowing machine?

Sorry to hear about your foot. Broken bones are no fun (been there done that 2 years ago). And there are only so many chair exercises you can do (again, I did what I could from the ones on SP). Take care, give it time to heal.

Sorry about your foot. Hope you'll heal quickly.
Don't stress too much over exercise, watch your food and you'll be fine.

Great to hear from you and that you are doing so well - except for that foot!!!!! Does your Y offer fitness classes in the pool? if so, give them a try. I love the stretch & tone type in the warm therapy pool but for cardio I'd go with deep water fitness. You wear a flotation belt and do lots of non-weight bearing movement. Best of luck finding one you like!

    Hi Diane,
    Good to see you posting.
Sounds like you had a lot of fun in Nashville. Sorry to hear about your foot though. I agree with buttonpopper, maybe you can do some of the seated exercise videos.

I haven't been spending as much time on SP either. I spend way too much time on the computer and have been trying to cut down. But failing.

I have totally fallen off the wagon healthy eating and exercise wise. Need to kick my own behind into gear. Anyhooo....................
Glad you doing well, sans foot.

Pop in here every now and then, I always enjoy your blogs and sense of humor.

Diane, I'm so glad to see you here today but so sorry to hear about the broken foot! What a bummer! I haven't been exercising at all so don't really know much, but there are some seated workout videos here in the Spark library which I do every once in a while and which just might be doable for you with your broken foot. I hope your recovery is smooth and speedy, my dear, and I look forward to seeing you here whenever you can make it!

Enjoy the spring! I have the windows open today even though it's slightly too cool for that, but the fresh air and the sounds of children playing in the distance make me feel optimistic and nostalgic for the days when my own children used to play outside. Take care, dear Diane!

Oh no! Sorry you broke your foot! I know it's hard to take the time off to heal! Could you try a stationary bike for cardio?
Glad you had fun in Nashville! We are leaving for Gatlinburg in the morning, I can't wait! I'll be checking in occasionally.
    I miss you on here!
    Take care of yourself friend!

I'm so sorry that you broke you foot. Poor little Bug, you are. My feet feel like they're broke too, so I can enter in on how you're feeling somewhat. My pain is from having RA. As far as cardio, I love my recumbent bike, to get the fitness going. But that would be tough with your boot on. You could do upper body cardio with a video here on SP. Today I walked walked with having it go shopping, so I'm resting my feet now and they feel so much better!

Take care and love and hugs to you!💖

Glad you had a fun trip to Nashville...
Know what you mean about bird feeders.. I put mine out in the morning and bring them in every evening. Good exercise for me & keeps the feeders and their brackets safe from the night marauders, too! possum, raccoon & bear have been spied in the area where the feeders hang in the daytime.
Sorry I haven't any suggestions for your gimpy cardio routines.. but you are a smart cookie and I have faith in your ingenuity to find something to fit the bill.
as to your foot.... I was going to ask if you kicked someone in the keester & cracked their butt and broke your foot... Sorry you took your tumble. glad you weren't more seriously injured.
    Happy Healing !
