A year ago, on March 12, I first put my Spark Fitness Tracker (I named him Mr. Slinky) on my right sneaker and started walking. It's been a good journey, with some ups and downs, but twelve months later Mr. Slinky and I have accomplished some goals:

Goal number one was to walk two million steps within a year. We covered 2,341,048.

Goal number two was to walk a thousand miles within a year. We walked 1,040.4.

Goal number three was to earn the Glow Getter award (I'm set at 8,000 steps) every day in the month of February. We did it! (This goal was made easier by the fact that we were at the beach almost every day - actually several beaches on the East coast. My favorite was Myrtle Beach, SC).

My all time high was 22,900 steps on February 16. Again, Myrtle Beach. Somehow you just don't notice how far you've been walking when you can smell the sea, listen to the waves, watch the gulls and sandpipers, hunt for shells, and hold hands with someone you love. (Much gratitude to my wonderful husband, who was with me for every one of the steps in February). BTW, 22,900 steps was 8.8 miles.

March 12 started a new year for me and my buddy, Mr. Slinky. He's not on my sneaker any more, due to an accident that snapped off his little clip. Now I keep him in the little watch pocket of my jeans, and so far I've managed not to put him through the washer. It's time to set some more goals. I'm thinking 1,200 miles and 2.5 million steps. And since the longest journey begins with a single step, I'd better go for a walk.
