On February 1, 2016 I had bladder surgery.
Over the month of January I went back on my clean eating plan. I had been so bad over the last few months that I had gained back 15 pounds :( But I knew I had to take care of my body before I put it through surgery. I was extra careful with my eating and lots of exercise. I was able to lose 14 lbs. So I felt my body was ready for the shock of surgery. But now I think my body just likes to fight back after surgery.
I had one of the biggest scares of my life after I began to wake up from the anesthetic...not being able to breathe. After several hours and multiple medications I was finally stable and moved back to my daycare surgery. However I had to stay the night in case my throat closed up again through the night. Boy I sure don't take breathing for granted.
Throughout the night I had the anesthetist come in and out to check my breathing and sat's. Its not often they see patients whose throat swells to the point of not being able to swallow or push air through. He did a quick ultrasound of my throat while in the recovery room and was worried about my thyroid nodule and cyst. So he wants me to see a surgeon to figure out whats causes these episodes with recovery as well assess the thyroid, I had the same thing happen a few surgery's ago so now that its happened a few times they want to figure out why.
The following day I was able to go home. Aside from feeling drained and sore I was stable. Being out of the hospital was great but I sure was exhausted and ready for the hour drive home so I could go back to bed.
Since being home I have had a few complications. After almost 2 weeks I was feeling so weak and began having issues with my stitches. So after blood work and a few trips back to the surgeon I have found out that I am anemic and my stitches are separating exposing my bladder sling which my surgeon is worried about. So I am back to see her again next week and if its still the same I will be going back in for a revision surgery.
She is hoping this can be done with conscious sedation to prevent another episode of my throat closing up. Since I don't see the surgeon about this till March 3.
So as the days go by I am still not moving all the fast and still pretty sore. Not the recovery I was hoping for but I know it will happen and I have to be patient. So for now I will continue to rest, rest, rest! Hoping I will not need the revision surgery.
