Exploring the slow cooker

Friday, January 15, 2016

As I have written earlier, I invested in a crock pot and I am still exploring it - yesterday I made a "honey mustard chicken" recipe from Spark People and it was delicious -but I think it was delicious because of the spicing so this morning I have started another corckpot with the same honey-mustard-thyme-garlic-etc spicing but mostly onion, some potato and some carrots too. I also added some green lentils so the protein will be looked after too...The crockpot might be one of those gadgets that I use intensely for a while and then it goes into the deep of the cupboard...I do have a clay pot that I use now and then but not as much as I could... the thing about the crockpot is that I do have the idea to "load" it in the morning and then food would be ready when I come home from work. I already discovered the downside of that, it is not smart to prepare food in the morning when I need to go to work... so I will have to think about preparing the night before and then just fill the crockpot in the morning. Another of those logistic problems that I have learned means a lot to me.

Finally got around to do some exercise yesterday. It is really cold again, stepping outside a second more than necessary is not what I want, I did 30 minutes of Wii dancing in front of teve and the good thing about it was that I did not notice as time passed, was too occupied with trying to get the moves right.

It is too cold inside again - 20 outside means +15 inside and I want at least -17 to feel comfortable. The weather report says that this will last at least a week... I fear it! But the dawn is breaking and I can see that the bird feeder is empty, better step outside and refill it before the early birds come!

I have yet to master making crockpot use a habit. Like you, it's been problematic trying to prepare dinner during a busy morning. It's something I need to work out for myself as well.

    Stay warm!

I too am playing with a new slow cooker; I had given mine to my DD a couple of years ago but find I was missing it for soups. Enjoying soup on these cold days and playing with other recipes too. Prices on the cookers were really low after Christmas. Even been playing with baking in it. I've not yet decided if that's a good idea.

Warm spring like day yesterday but tomorrow winter returns full blast. Such is winter in KY! Enjoyed the good walk with Sugar yesterday!

I use to love my crockpot - when I used it! I agree, it's something you use then forget about!

I love my crockpot and I use it all the time. It's especially nice when it's too hot outside to turn the oven on and you don't want to stand in front of a hot grill. Have fun with it!
