Walking the bridge vs. walking on sand....

We are spending January on Hutchinson Island in Florida. Yesterday, we walked the bridge over the causeway and I easily got 11,000 steps on my Fitbit. I love walking on the beach, but I have a hard time getting 10,000 steps that way. I've read that walking on sand takes 2.2 times the amount of energy that walking on a firm surface. I believe it!

I don't get hung up on trying to do 10,000 steps a day. If I get 6,000 steps on a beachwalking day, I know I've gotten my exercise for the day.
