shredded wheat

Friday, September 04, 2015

ok, I've been trying to do more low carb and then I came to a box of shredded wheat left in my cubbard. Ok, I'm going to eat the last two pieces because I like shredded wheat.

Only I noticed that if I ate both pieces I would consume 37 carbs. Here's what I don't understand. Carbs were only listed as 6 carbs and then there was another category for "other carbs" , does anyone have an idea what that means?

You got me curious so I took a look at the nutrition labels from both Post Mini Wheat (spoon size) and Post Shredded Wheat Biscuits.

The Biscuits only show 18.5 grams of carbs with 3 grams of fibre, but the mini wheat shows 40 grams carbs including 6 grams of fibre. It does show 34 "other carbs", but as the labeling shows only wheat as an ingredient, it is difficult to determine what that 34 grams is comprised of....

I did notice they said "Product formulations may change. For current nutrition facts and ingredient line information check product packaging." Perhaps the only way to really know would be to contact the manufacturer. On the other hand, if you never plan on buying this item in the future, .....?

    Take care....
