Five year anniversary- with Spark, 9-2-2015

Hi Spark Friends!
Time sure flies when you are having FUN!!
Today is a special day for me to remember. I found Spark 5 years ago with a idea from my primary care doctor at that time. It has been quite a journey for me with ups and downs, health setbacks, surgeries and many other things that happen in life. I am still here on Spark and have not given up. It is a FABULOUS incentive to stay motivated, eat healthy and keep active. emoticon Thank you Spark for being here and changing my life is so many ways for healthier habits and a better lifestyle.

In the past 6 weeks i have started a new program and I am feeling so good about it. I have a dietician and wellness doctor that is helping me along the way to wellness for life.

I have lost 10#'s in 6 weeks and that sure makes me happy and determined to keep it
off, keep tracking all meals and snacks and exercising 5 days a week and sometimes more. emoticon emoticon emoticon

It is so easy to follow and it keeps me honest. Eating whole grains, fruits, veggies, protein and dairy really fills me up. When I say WHOLE grains, I mean Whole grains.
I learned many things are --only whole wheat and not whole grain. So I am reading the labels more and watching the nutrition on the packages of bread and other food items.
I only eat whole grain pasta and brown rice and no longer eat white pasta or white rice.
I eat better breads (whole grain) and am careful to be more aware of lowering my carbs.

Off course, cookies, chips, cakes and desserts are to be eliminated (if possible) and that
is the hardest to do, but working on it....one day at a time...I can eat Skinny-pop popcorn so that is a great snack. I eat chicken, fish, turkey, and beans, occasionally beef (once a month maybe) and eat much more Veggies and Hummus, variety of fruits (measured) and plain nonfat skim milk, almond vanilla milk and nonfat Greek yogurt. I have many new recipes for this lifestyle program and I guess it is more of a Mediterranean diet. emoticon

I work out at the gym or home, go to Silver Sneaker classes, Zumba gold, Yoga and am there at least 5 times a week now. It has become a HABIT to go often now and I
feel so much better for doing this.

The only hard part of this great eating plan is eating out. Eating out or going to family parties is such a problem in ways that are hard to explain. Everywhere you go or I go there seems to be a lunch, dinner or family event. Food is the topic and all people like to do is eat. It has become a Major Social event for so many people and friends. When I meet up with friends they say, "Let's get together and where do you want to eat?"
Do any of you have this same problem? I do love meeting and sharing time with close friends, but the menu's are not agreeable most of the time for what I NOW EAT. So
I am working on this challenge and am determined to be STRONG and not eat all the
items I should not eat. Oh well, at least now I am AWARE and really look at the Menu ahead of time and also look at the counter set up with variety of foods at Family gatherings. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thanks for reading my blog and letting me share my new journey for Wellness and my Lifestyle plan. I will keep going forward to reach goal and then plan to maintain for life the weight I am working toward. Woo Hoo! I am on a Roll and will not look back, but only Move Forward for a healthier and focused mind set. I can do it! I will do it and I
will succeed. One day at a time will get me there and I will look FABULOUS and AWESOME when I get to goal. As I said once a long time ago, "I just have not met you yet (meaning goal)" and it is from the song (Michael Buble' sings)....Lol.....
Enjoy September everyone and All the best to you in your journey!!

My new Goals are pretty much what i have been doing for the past 6 weeks, but will mention them now since i want to continue and remain STRONG. emoticon

Track all meals and snacks daily
Exercise 5 days a week for 30-60 minutes
Eat Whole grains, fruits and vegetables, nonfat milk and greek yogurt, beans, chicken, fish, turkey and many other whole grain foods.
Stay Strong with eating out and family food events and Do NOT give in.
Do not do mindless eating.
Do not buy foods at the grocer that are not in my plan.
Think Positive at all times
Make sure to get plenty of sleep. At least 7-8 hours each night.
Drink 8 cups water daily.
Last, but not least PRAY each day for strength to follow these good habits so I can enjoy
life to the fullest along with my family and grandkids.
Life is good. I can do it and will not quit. God bless!

Happy 5 year anniversary to me. I think I finally GOT IT!!
hugs to all of you, Irish Ei emoticon

Very good and so much of a good way of eating. This is how I like to eat too, and try hard too. I try to avoid casseroles because of usually being so heavy laden with sauces. You know, they are always the ones that taste better, but I know that I do better when I eat more whole foods. I love how you've written this in detail So plain to see how you're doing it. Thank you and I admire you and appreciate your determination so much. That truly is what gets the job done! We will do it! And we ARE doing it!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Hi Ei.
What a wonderful blog...and a wonderful tribute to your 5 years with SP.

Here's a suggestion: have a cheat day when you can partake at least one or two items that are totally sinful on a calorie chart. You will feel good...trust me!

Terrific Blog Ei...You are doing what we all know should be done to attain a healthier lifestyle. However, you are doing it and should be proud of your efforts.
We do not have to deprive as you probably have already found out. We can pick and choose who what and where when it comes to socializing and that is part of life.
Congratulations on your excellent weight loss. Fantastic!!

Down here in Naples, life revolves around food -- it's everywhere, all the time. I resolved to stick to my plan NO MATTER WHAT and so I eat before I go places and just sip a glass of water or soda and socialize. Restaurants are usually pretty good about serving vegetables and/or fruit a la carte, so if I want to eat, I always can. There is always a way to succeed if I want to (and a way to wander if I don't).

Good for you Irish Ei! Sounds like a great plan. I know for me it's definitely easier eating at home or at a restaurant vs. eating at someone's house or at a party. But you can do it!
