Are we done yet?

Sunday, August 30, 2015

Well, I am not exactly ready to do stand-up comedy in the local nightclub yet, but I am pressing forward with my attempts to find some humour in this "lifestyle adjustment" routine. I may not formally write about it each time as, quite frankly, I may feel like being more reflective and don't want to tie myself down to a certain expectation.
Anyway, this plateau continues and I know part of it is that I need to eat a bit less and move more, but honestly, I get rather resentful. I hate being hungry and exhausted. I think that somehow or other, I have to retrain my mind so that food and exercise is not tied into reward and deprivation/punishment. Practically from the moment we emerge from the womb, desserts are viewed as a reward for eating all those nasty vegetables and for good behaviour. Sucrose is given to babies in the hospital prior to invasive procedures and now prior to immunizations. I don't see any celery and carrot sticks being handed out!! I still have to work this one out in my mind yet.
Perhaps with the dreaded plateau is where many of us"give up." I know I have several times in the past. We have been brainwashed with the latest fad diets, TV reality shows etc. to expect instant gratification. If even Oprah with her private entourage of nutritionists, trainers, psychologists etc. struggles, it is a miracle that the rest of us ordinary folk manage at all!
On that note though, just for today, I shall stay "on program" .....often success is just one salad or one walk away!!
Take care, dear hearts, and carry on! The alternative is really no better!

Kathy, I feel you. I am right there with you. I truly love to eat. But this time, I am going to learn how to enjoy the food that is good for you and make it take good. We are strong determined women and we can do it. I will be right there with you whenever you need a push. You got this girl. I know you do and so do you. Keep your head up and keep pushing forward. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
