Day 4 of my humour experiment or should I just "give up"??

I always did admire Erma Bombeck!! Much like her, and many others, I seem to go back and forth between this whole healthy lifestyle kick and then going back to my default position. Many of us refer to it as "giving up", or "this is just too hard." So as I was feeling that today, and not feeling very funny or comical, I thought to myself, what exactly am I giving up? Why is it that we seem to want to stuff ourselves with unhealthy, processed food and move as little as possible? What is the payoff?? Surely heartburn, fatigue, diabetes, hypertension, sore joints, bad skin, low self-esteem (to mention only a very few) can't be qualities for which everyone is lining up?? I realize there are many emotional issues that surround nutritional intake and that the sugar/fat combination is highly addictive. So like many other addictions, it can override all logical arguments. It is interesting how many of us still do choose to exchange our health for the instant gratification of that pizza or donut. I do not know what the magical answer is and although today (just barely) I managed to stay on program, witty sayings and good humour have been rather scarce. But I'm not that keen for a knee replacement, diabetes or a stroke, so I will trudge on. I really don't think the alternative ("giving up") is much better than what I am doing right now (and besides, I promised my daughter I would live another 40 years!).     Kathy, the reason I like all that stuff is because it tastes good to me and I enjoy it. However, that doesn't mean I have to continually over indulge in the things that are so bad for my health, not to mention, my figure. I like looking good and if cutting way back on all the bad stuff keeps me healthy and looking good, I am going to do it. But more importantly, I need to learn how to balance and incorporate the 80/20 rule. Once I reach my goal, I need to eat healthy and responsibly 80% of the time, however, its okay to have a slice of pizza or a piece of cake every now and then. My challenge is to stop binging and stay consistent. Thanks for your post, you made some great points.
