Day 3 of the humour experiment or should we fish or do light housework??
Tuesday, August 25, 2015
Well, today has been fairly uneventful in terms of food intake, but I have a bone to pick with SparkPeople's "Calories Burned List." Now I fully realize that not all of those activities are considered a cardio workout, but I ask you why is sitting or standing while fishing included and not light to moderate housework? I had read some posts where it is considered "something you do everyday." Unless one is wrestling with a hundred pound tuna while on a deep sea fishing expedition, I consider all the various household tasks I do to burn more calories than sitting on a dock reeling in a 6 ounce sunfish. "Acting" is another listed activity....really???? That could cover anything from acting the part of a ironman triathalon competitor to the part of a corpse. Quite a difference in terms of calories burned, I would think!!! Another activity is "playing an instrument".....so when I sit down to play the piano and turn a few sheets of music, I am burning more calories than washing my floors or vacuuming?
While counting "light to moderate housework" will not set me into a cardiac arrest, it does spur me on onto some actual "heavy housework" and does encourage me to be up on my feet.
Perhaps there needs to be two divisions of activities, true cardio ones and then ones that are above and beyond merely breathing! In the meantime, I have added light to moderate housework to my activity list (had to import it from another site) and will post it to my status without shame!!! Who knows I may even "fish while standing" or "officiate a sporting event"!!!
I do go back to the gym next week, so I will be moving on up from the light dusting of my chandeliers to a more acceptable level of cardio workouts!
Keep calm and carry your broom and dust cloth with pride!!!!
