Doctor called ...at 10pm

Tuesday, August 25, 2015

Typically if I get a call after about 8pm, I freak out. Imagine my panic when it's my DOCTOR calling at 10pm!

I went in for a follow up for my hospital visit and to get antibiotics for this stupid ear infection I managed to get over the weekend. While I was there, Doc took my blood for 'routine' testing. Evidently my magnesium level is 'dangerously low' and he felt it necessary to call me last night and make me worry. It was low enough that they thought it had to be a lab error. But, I was told in the hospital that my levels were low and they actually put me on an IV of magnesium while I was there - I doubt the lab screwed up.

This morning, I called and left a message with his nurse to see if it was absolutely necessary for me to come back in for another blood draw when I'm almost certain the results were correct. That was 3 hours ago and I still haven't heard anything. It might be bad form, but I went ahead and took a magnesium supplement after reading what all it can do to your body. It can cause Type II Diabetes, high blood pressure and fatigue - all chronic issues of mine. Wouldn't it be funny if these supplements got rid of all my major health problems? LOL

Anyway, I am getting into my work-at-home routine and trying to get past the throbbing in my ear. I had great plans to go to the gym yesterday but I was too freaking tired. I need to do yoga today but if I don't get at least a short nap soon I'm going to be useless for the rest of the day.

Although it was very late, it was good that the doctor called you. I hope that you can get the level under control.
