Claireinparis and I became spark friends 3 years ago and I was drawn to her because of all of the wonderful blogs she wrote about all of her hikes around France. I had been there twice and had actually just returned from a wonderful trip to Paris when I first joined SP.
I had read her blogs with interest, dreaming that one day, I would go back to Paris and spend a day hiking with Claire in France.
Well that day came to fruition. My husband and I decided to go to Italy and to France for our 30 year wedding anniversary present to each other as it is coming up at the end of August.
This day will always be one of the most memorable for both my husband and I as we had such a wonderful time seeing the countryside with Claire.
Here are some pics of our awesome hike.
Because my husband has an excellent sense of direction, we took the train to Andresy to meet Claire.
The trains and metro in Paris are very busy, but once you figure out where you want to go, it is quite easy and inexpensive to get around.
This little guy welcomed us into the village for our walk.
We visited a cemetery where there was a 11th Century Cross.
The view was amazing!
A cemetery has a beauty all of its own and we spent a little time there looking at the different engravings and stones.
Claire had pointed this out and told us it was quite rare to see this symbol.
The homes in this area were just beautiful.
I was so happy to find some poppies along the way.
The smiles on our faces tell the story of how much we enjoyed our hike!
Claire is a great tour guide and figuring out which path to go on is not always easy and I love this picture of her as she is figuring out which way we should go!
As I found out, these hikes are challenging as the paths go uphill quite a bit, and the trail itself is not always smooth so you get quite a workout on them!
The flowers in this area were just beautiful.
WW 1 Memorial that my husband wanted me to take a picture of and he and Claire had an interesting conversation about the different wars that France was part of.
More beautiful homes.
And then it was time for lunch. We had a lovely lunch at a wonderful French restaurant overlooking the Seine and talking about everything! It was so fun!
And then back to the train station.
It was such a wonderful day and hike and I know that someday we will meet again to do another hike!
Thank you so much Claire for such a wonderful day. We talked about how wonderful it is to be able to meet the friends that we have found here on SP and to have such a great time getting to know them even better. I am so thankful for SP and for the friendships that I have found here.
The train back to Paris!
Thanks for walking along and sharing this wonderful day with me!
Holly, thank you so much for sharing this adventure!! What a beautiful day it must have been. I've never visited France - only been in the airport. Flying terrifies me so I'm not sure I'll ever make it over there, but your photographs definitely brought it to life. Glad you and Claire were able to meet! 2077 days ago

What a treat and so wonderful that your husband joined you! My husband and I met up with two Spark friends on the east coast while we were on vacation a couple of years ago and even stayed as a guest in the home of one for a few days. It was really special to be able to meet these sweet friends in person and to introduce them to my DH. 2111 days ago

First of all congratulations on 30 years of marriage, Holly. For our 30th, Steve and I went on a cruise in the Eastern Caribbean on the Norway which used to be the France. It was fun, but I think I like your trip too-Steve would not have liked the flight to Europe though. What a wonderful way to spend a big anniversary. I loved the Hydrangeas and the poppy. When I was younger I'd try to pick and press a poppy and would always be disappointed. Now I too take pictures of poppies. It is absolutely delightful to see your version of the walk, it shows the perspective of the hikers. I already knew that you or your DH took some of the pictures she posted as she was in some of them. I found it amusing also that you all wore a shade of peach/apricot was that intentional? Now back to 30 years-may you have 30 more together if the Lord wills it. 2111 days ago
What a beautiful blog Holly! That is awesome that you and Claire were able to get together and spend the day hiking through the country Side and enjoying lunch together! I love all the pictures you took they are absolutely gorgeous! I am so glad you and your honey had a fabulous vacation in Florence Italy and in Paris! Thank you for sharing your trip! "Memories To Last A Lifetime!" Hugs and Love to You My Wonderful Sparks Friend, xoxo 2111 days ago
Oh la la, how exciting to read your account of our hike together!!! I love to see the way you saw it, it is a rare treat! (But sorry for 'stealing' several of the pictures you sent me for my blog, I couldn't resist, they were so lovely!) I will really miss you, Holly, and hope we meet again for a hike or two! I didn't realize it was your 30th anniversary, woohoo! Congratulations to you both! 2112 days ago
I am so thrilled that you did this! Claire seems like such a lovely person, and I love her blogs. We went to Paris to visit our daughter last year, and I thought of Claire. I must say that one of the highlights of that trip was that I met my friend. Liva, a young woman whom I met on line playing a (now defunct) game years ago. When the game ended, we became FB friends and are in (almost) daily contact. The day that we spent with her was so special, so I know how you must feel. 2112 days ago
