Finally, I have a confirmed diagnosis....severe adrenal fatigue. I have always suspected it, but my MD doctor in Jan 2013 laughed in my face when I suggested it and asked for testing.
Instead, he tested me for sleep apnea which showed I had a mild case and was resolved with dental appliances. I was tested for thyroid and I had low thyroid... which was another fiasco trying to get the right dosage. I have since stopped seeing him, and on the third MD doctor which I like. She finally got my thyroid dosage right.
Last Fall I went to a naturopath doctor. He was pretty sure I had adrenal fatigue and put me on some supplements for it, but since my thyroid wasn't optimized he wanted to make sure that was okay first before testing the adrenals. Well, after months and finally getting the right dosage, I was still exhausted and dragging through the day. I could sleep 8-10 hours and still wake up tired.
The beginning of July I did the 24 hour saliva test. I got the results yesterday...my adrenals are shot. Basically I am flatlined through out the day. Also, my DHEA level is extremely low. He is putting my on an aggressive supplementation protocol and says it could take 6-12 months before I feel normal again. But, he also said I should see some improvement within a month.
He also said no vigorous cardio just easy walks and strength training twice a week for 20 minutes until I begin to heal.
Part of the reason my adrenals became fatigued was because of some very stressful (good and bad) years plus extreme exercising along with dieting. I have learned that more exercise and less food puts a lot of stress on the body. And my body rebelled against it and I hit the wall and was unable to lose and began to put on weight especially around my middle no matter what I did.
I also went to a nutritionist (she works with my naturopath doctor) at the end of June and she gave me some good advice. I will be doing a 2 week elimination diet beginning of August.
I am glad to see that there is now light at the end of the tunnel. I know it will take awhile, but now there is hope where before I was discouraged and felt like this was the way things were going to be with no hope for getting better and losing weight.
