We left Holland, Michigan and journeyed north to the Upper Peninsula. We planned to visit the U.P. and Mackinac Island while we were this far north. We hoped to meet with a friend either on the way up through Central Michigan or if we came back through that area, maybe on the way back south.
The Mackinac Bridge is five miles long and connects Lower Michigan with the Upper Peninsula. It crosses the Great Lakes of Michigan and Huron at their meeting called the Straits of Mackinac.
We stayed in an RV Park in St. Ignace, MI, not far from Lake Huron.
We especially wanted to see all of the five Great Lakes while we were on our trip so Lake Superior was the last one to see and we visited it's shores one day when we took a day trip to Tahquamenon Falls.
Here are the Falls.
Another trip we made while in the U.P. was to Mackinac Island, which is a quaint island where there are no cars and all transportation is either by bicycles or horse and buggy. It is a beautiful, peaceful island where it seems as if time has slowed to a restful pace.
Bicycles line the sides of the streets as shoppers visit the quaint shops.
The Grand Hotel.
The kayakers seen floating on the Lake through the Arch Rock seemed to be floating on glass, the water was so clear.
Old Fort Mackinac is a re-inaction of the original fort on the Island.
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Mackinac Island and that rounded up our trip to the Upper Peninsula.
On the way South we met a friend of mine and her husband for a quick visit over lunch. You may know this special lady by her user name GABY1948. Gaye and I met on Spark People and have been friends for several years. Meeting her in person was a highlight of our trip to Michigan!
I hope you have enjoyed the State of Michigan as you've traveled with us.
It is beautiful up there. Did you ever plan to see the locks while up there, it is worth it. While on vacation up there every year, my mom and I go to the falls and the bear ranch. It would be cool to meet up, meet up, spark meetings rock! 2154 days ago
Great pix and sharings! Glad we got to go along with you both. One of my dear cousins lives in Bayfield, Wisconsin on Lake Superior. Had a special visit with her and other "cuzzes" a few years back. Enjoy! 2155 days ago
