2 years of Maintenance- how does it feel?

Friday, July 03, 2015

I have been on SP for 3 years and in maintenance for 2 of those years. Losing weight was challenging. I was determined that I could do it, but there are bumps in the roads. I kept at it though, I pushed through the plateaus knowing that even if I was not losing weight during those weeks, I was still getting stronger and more fit.
I joined the maintaining and transitioning to maintenance a little before I actually decided I was at goal weight. One of my sp friends had joined since she was very close and I decided that would be a great team to join so I could try to figure out maintenance.
Once you reach goal weight, do you think it will be smooth sailing from there? I was not sure what maintenance really looked like since I had never really done that kind of program before.
I had lost weight, I just didn't know how to go about keeping it off.
The maintenance team was the way to go. Reading the blogs, the articles, finding more wonderful friends that were on the same journey. It all helps to figure it out.
2 years later, I am at the same weight I was when I decided to say I was done losing and I was happy with where I was.
It was kind of scary adding a few more calories in each day and to tell the truth, I eat at the lower end of my calorie range which is really quite high because I exercise a lot in order to have those extra calories and my job is a very active one so it has worked.
I go out of my way to get steps in every single day, at work and at home. I will run a color run next Sunday which is where it all began for me with 5K's. I ran one in July 2013 and I could not believe how fun it was. I knew in order to keep the weight off, there was no slacking off on the exercise front this time. I could not go back to eating whatever I wanted. That didn't work last time and SP had taught me so much about healthy eating that I couldn't even thinking about eating like that anymore.
I am so happy that I was led to SP. I was surfing the web and found it. It was free, I thought, what the heck, it couldn't hurt to try it. I didn't really think it would help that much but I was desperate to find something. I was wrong. It helped me turn my life around and by watching me, my husband decided he could do it as well and joined about a year later and lost 30 lbs as well. SP works. I could yell it from the roof tops.
So for all of you still on the weight loss journey, hang in there. Keep on trying and doing what you are doing to lose and get stronger and healthier. It will all pay off in the long run !
SPARK on, have a safe and healthy 4th of July weekend!
Lots of hugs to all of my awesome friends who have kept me accountable every step of the way. SP is so successful because of the people that join you along the journey!

So wonderful! Congratulations Holly!!! You are looking better and better, it is wonderful to see how you have become fitter during those 3 years and have continued to improve even these last 2 years. It is because you take maintenance seriously that you are so successful! I can't wait to be in maintenance myself someday (hopefully in the next year or so) and I'll follow your advice and join the maintenance team!

Two years of maintainence is a huge accomplishment so congratulations! I'm only a couple of months in maintenance and while my results are good, I still feel very .....hmm I guess I would say vulnerable. But I do think that with regular exercise my metabolism seems to be humming along and that really does help so much with balancing some indulgences along the way. (Lobster roll tonight made by my friend who doesn't skimp on the fat stuff when she makes food). But I will be walking the golf course both tomorrow and Sunday and will be sure to get back to my regular diet.
I too have found SP to be a huge help and I enjoy the friendships that I have made here.
Enjoy your weekend and good luck in your upcoming race!
    PS you look terrific!

emoticon on two years of maintenance!!! And thank you so much for this post!! Though I'm still a ways away, maintenance is always there in the back of my mind as something I worry about. And it's mostly for the reason you mentioned - changing from of a mindset of losing and adding back in some extra calories. It's so inspiring to see how far you've come and how long you've been able to keep the weight off...gives me hope that I'll be able to pull off a success, too emoticon . You're doing an amazing job!!

Thank you so much for commenting on my blog yesterday, too! I feel like such a "novice" runner - like I don't really know what I'm doing so I just go out there, try something, cross my fingers, and hope it works! But I'm having a blast doing it - I never thought running would be so enjoyable. I appreciate all your tips and encouragement! Have a beautiful 4th of July weekend emoticon .
