Well, I dusted off Mr Scale (wouldn't want those dust particles adding to my weight!). I turned him on. I put one foot on, then the other and closed my eyes until I heard that little beeping sound he makes when he has come to a number. The number was 196.4. I got my little chart out and recorded the number. I paused and thought.
Part of me was upset. The first of the year I weighed 198.2. That's a 1.8 weight loss for 6 months! Hardly stellar. Really Barb? That's about equal to a good pooh. Give it up. All this work, all the sparking, all this blather for what? 1.8 lbs? UGH! You will NEVER get there. Gee, only 68.2 more to go. At this rate you will be 77 years old by the time you reach your goal weight.
I had to pause and remind myself that my weight was at 202.4 when I decided to take a different approach to this whole healthy me thing. I was really down 6 pounds in 30 days. Not bad! Wait - no - that's awesome Barb! Good job!
I start thinking - how can that be good. I'm still fat. Clothes are still tight. I'm still obese.
Sometimes it's not what you see in the mirror - it's what you don't see! I am making better choices with my food. I am thinking and making choices! Not just mindlessly putting things in my mouth. I am exercising not to punish myself for making poor food choices, or because I don't like the way my body looks - but because I enjoy it! Best part? I didn't go have a sausage McMuffin on my way in to work because I did well. I went to work, ate my protein bar and fruit and I actually enjoyed it. I had some Washington sweet cherries. Yum! Sure beats that McMuffin.
My body? Well it is still pretty fluffy! I can't say I love my fat rolls, double chin or dimples in my thighs - but I do love the fact that my body is strong and getting stronger. It can take me on those long walks and while I may ache a bit after, the aches heal. I am finding I can walk farther - and so can the dog!
Well, Mr Scale has been tucked away until August 1. I am a little apprehensive about what he will have to say then. During July, I have a long 4 day weekend in the car and another week vacation that is 6 days on the road! I am already planning my healthy snacks and packing my walking shoes! I am hoping I will be able to sneak in an early morning walk each day before the others get up.
OOOOOH and my spark friends are the best! One of my friends on the I Matter team posted a thread for people to post their tips for staying on track while traveling! I have gotten some good ones! If you are traveling, check it out!
Well the virtual walk is moving along.
Day 113 brought flowers on the trail! These are Jeffrey Shooting Stars.
And there was this deer (look closely, it's there)
How fun it was to walk on this bridge over Woods Creek!
How about these stairs! I was really grateful to see them!
And the waterfalls!
More creeks to cross - no bridge here
And tricky snow which led to trouble postholing!
Look! Pinchot Pass!
Day 114 brought these rocks which are shiny from the glaciers grinding across them.
Yikes, and the south fork of Kings River. I hope there is a bridge there! Looks pretty fast moving!
My stopping point for the day!
Well people, it's July. The year is moving on. If you don't like where you are in your journey, change something! OK, let's go, one foot in front of the other. We have everything we need! Signing off with a little Pooh-ism.
Let's rock July!!!!
