Always have a plan.

Sunday, May 17, 2015

Do you wake up some days and wonder, what does today have in store for me?
Will work go ok?
Will I have time to workout?
What will I eat today?
Planning ahead is always a great way to go. I pack my lunch for the week on Sunday evening and take it to work with me on Monday and keep it in the fridge at work.
Boring? Maybe but by the time I eat lunch, I am just glad to be sitting down and whatever I eat at the times tastes really good to me. I pretty much eat the same thing Monday through Friday for lunch and breakfast. I know exactly how many calories are the food that I eat so it works for me.
Dinner is always different but even that we plan for. We get out the main ingredient at the beginning of the week and then make sure we have salads or sides to go with it.
I really like to work out after work vs get up even earlier to work out and it is not an issue for me to work out in the early evening. It helps me to unwind from my long day and just feel the burn of the muscles being worked.
So make a plan, and try to stick to it, some days things are going to crop up and maybe you have to change your plan but consistency is really key.
If you miss one day, then just pick it back up the next day. Remember that this is not a race, and you must do this for life in order for it to work.
It is never a diet, it is pure and simple a way of life.
So find an exercise that you love, walking, running, zumba, cycling, dvd's, jumping rope, it doesn't matter what you do as long as you do it and burn those calories.
Fall in love with exercise. That is the best advice I can give to someone.
You will reap the benefits by feeling better, looking younger and being able to move more.
Happy Sunday and keep on sparking! Happy trails to you!

Holly, I do exactly the same thing! And have been trying to remind myself all day that I'm not boring, I'm just prepared. emoticon My breakfast and lunch are always the same - then I'm not surprised by the calories. I definitely change things up for dinner because I don't have just myself to cook for. I'm an after work exerciser and became the exercise INSTRUCTOR because I needed the consistency and accountability to show up every day! And being prepared does make it sooo much easier to pick back up after an unexpected surprise. Thank you so much for this very timely reminder. emoticon

I so agree with you on that...I eat the same food each day, pretty much, except for dinner. I usually have a few options and keep it stocked with my healthy favorites. We gave up processed meats last year, won't touch lunch meats or hot dogs. We all need to make it a way of life, like you said. Being asthmatic exercise in the morning is when pollen is highest, so I will not do exercise then. Like to go with my husband anyway, and late afternoon is best for that!! emoticon emoticon
Keep moving!! Stay healthy!! emoticon emoticon

I do better with a routine and a plan. If I don't plan my day I fritter it away. emoticon emoticon

Great blog. Planning ahead is the way to go. I eat practically the same thing for lunch everyday as well. I am happy with that. Learning to love exercise has been a valuable tool for health! Thanks for the great tips.

Although my breakfasts & lunches are not the same each and every day, there are several meals routinely eaten amongst the rotation.

You're spot on with so much great info here! Planning, consistency, falling in love with exercise (or an exercise), and most importantly if you slip up, so be it, continue with your plan the next day (or the rest of the day depending on when you realize the slip up).

Most days I chose between 2 choices for breakfast and lunch, same reason I know the amounts of calories, fats in each of them. Suppers are planned by the week, usually having a couple of meals I make that we can eat from twice that week., and have always something else on hand for other meals. Saturday night we eat out with friends, always having an enjoyable evening. On vacation now we make both breakfast and lunch here at the resort. Suppers are about 50/50 and that is fun for me (not as much cooking). I try very hard to stay within ranges but there are a few days---over board. Take each day as a new beginning when that happens.
I alos agree that if you enjoy the exercise you do, the more chance you will not be as tempted to skip exercise. I started the walk challenge and have started liking walks more, my go to other work out is time in the swim pool at the Y.

Planning ahead and eating the same breakfast / lunch on most days works the best for me too. I love my ham and cheese rye bread sandwiches each and every working day : ))

I plan my meals day by day. I just prefer them to taste fresher even though I pretty much eat the same thing normally.
