At War With Myself

Monday, May 04, 2015

Been on SP three weeks now and have learned a lot, but still learning too. During this time though, it seems like I'm in constant war with myself about eating healthy. One part of me knows that eating healthy is the right thing to do, not just for weight loss, but for my overall well-being. The other part of me just wants the junk. The junk part of me doesn't want to have a turkey sandwich with low-fat mayo for lunch, it really wants a big juicy hamburger with the works and some fries with that. The junk part looks at my dinner plate of 4 oz chicken breast, green beans (naked) and brown rice and wants to pour gravy over the rice and cook the green beans in some tasty fat. lol I will actually be glad when these two parts get into sync with each other, cause for now, it just seems like I'm in constant war with myself. emoticon vs emoticonAnd that can't be good.

I think that never completely leaves, but it does get better. I find that I feel a lot better when I let healthy eating dominate my life. You can do it!

Think of your eating as a new lifestyle and not a diet. I agree with others, if you don't eat what you enjoy you will not stick with it. Be sure and find alternative ways of making your favorite foods. Good Luck although the War rages on, you can be a winner!

I caved in, I usually do not buy things that aren't edible. But I got a Ninja food chopper/processor on sale. You can make your own gr.-meat w/it. As WhyteBrown said, you can bake tator fries, even sweet tator fries. And your veggies can be spiced up, herbs, vinegars, which do not add calories really. If you don't enjoy what you're eating you'll fade on the plan, man. Oh yeah.

Do not give up! There is info out there. I've been using non-fat Greek yogurt as a replacement for sour cream, mayo, and found it works okay with great protein, etc. You can even freeze it for dessert, and mix it w/ fruit or jam. frozen bananas work for whipping up a soft serve "ice cream", so you can salvage the turning dark ones by peeling, slicing and bagging into the freezer. Add a little natural cocoa and vanilla to it and it tastes great. But portion size is always prime. But you'd be surprised what certain foods portion size is.

Also know, that to lower saturated fats and bad cholesterol, one egg a day and/or using Olive oil can help lose weight and lower the numbers. I know. It works for me. But I cheat once in a while during the week, unfortunately. However, mustard and vinegar with spices are great for making dull meal options taste better. It works. I also use peppers, and they do not have to be uber-hot either. I do find if I overdose on hot peppers, my pain levels go down for least and hour or so w/o medications. And having Arthur moving in to all the joints in town, and being a pain in my backside, I appreciate the pain relief. Hot chocolate helps soothe the burn, and I've made my hot cocoa w/o milk but honey or a little sugar to ease the mouth and throat burn.

Peppers are actually a low-acid food, so it will not on its own cause stomach problems. It is always best however to start slow. I began with one drop of Tabasco in Campbell's tomato soup mix'd with milk back in about 1974 and wow that was hot. Now, I cannot get enuf' Tabasco for hot since the amount of vinegar in it overpowers everything.

Please keep exploring. A bland diet is not the key to losing weight; altho I've read those diet plans too. It isn't true. Expand your horizons should you dare.

    Keep hanging in there.
    your friend,
If God hadn't meant for us to enjoy food, He wouldn't have given us taste buds.

emoticon I know what you mean but it will get easier! I remember before I started this weight loss journey I LOVED soda (it was ALL I drank) and HATED (I mean literally hated) water but here I am now drinking ONLY water and LOVING it and when I have a rare sip of soda from my husband I wonder what I ever saw in it!!

Soon you'll get used to the healthier food and actually want it. This is not to say that those junk cravings will disappear all together but they'll get less. Also maybe you can just try healthier alternatives of your favorites maybe make your own healthier hamburger with some baked fries. Healthier substitutions can be just as good and even better than the junk!! You can win the war!! You're doing a emoticon job so far!! emoticon emoticon

So being at war with yourself isn't fun, but remember that junk changes your body chemistry so the more you eat of the stuff with nutrients the more your body chemistry will join the fight and then it will be you AND your good chemistry at war with the junk food side.

Fight on and kick the butt of the junk...hard to say, but you get the point.

    I got yer back, sister!
