I tried on bathing suits.....

Wednesday, March 18, 2015

I was bummed. I am nowhere near my goal weight like I thought I would be a year ago at this time. I don't have the body I thought I would have but then I realized:

I didn't buy a bathing suit. I was bummed. I did see some thinner women trying on suits. One of them look exceptionally nice in the suit she had on. I told her so. Normally I would have skated out of there feeling jealous and resentful - however, today I realize that most of us have issues with our bodies. Her rocking that bathing suit did not steal anything from me. In fact, her face lit up and she said "thank you".

Me? I have some work to do with my body. You see, bodies were built to perform. They are amazing. They even heal themselves! See if your car does that next time it gets a scratch! If only I maintained my body like I maintain my car..... well, things would be different!

Yep, my body is pretty special. I need to be treating it that way.

I know what you mean. Every year my kid has surf camp, and every year I realize that ah man, I didn't lose any weight again this year. In fact, since I've been homeschooling my some, I've been steadily gaining weight every year. 30lb. So...time to embrace the life I have, and find a way to live healthy within THIS life! Thanks for the inspiration.

How nice of you to give her a compliment. You thought she was rocking that bathing suit, but I'm sure she saw flaws that you didn't see. You giving her that compliment lit her up! Way to go!

I just take off my glasses when I walk into the dressing room with a bathing suit! It works every time.

Barb, I just love ya! You are so insightful and I feel like you and I are on fairly similar paths. I find myself reading your blog and nodding quite a bit. Bathing suits are rough. I've yet to venture in that direction -- I rank that right up with jeans shopping... pure torture!

I think your perspective is simply amazing! Keep working on you! You'll get it!!

Wonderful perspective. So very happy you gave the woman in the other bathing suit a compliment. I bet her inner dialogue improved immediately. And I bet doing it improved yours as well. This blog is a beautiful example of growing into a healthy perspective. Thanks for posting it!

What a great blog - it kind of relieved the tension that the words "bathing suit" evoked in me. When my daughter told me I couldn't go to Bermuda with her unless I bought one, I stood in the store and cried and said, "I guess I just can't go then!" I then learned that there were larger women than I was who were comfortable on the beach so I had a wonderful trip and like me much better now!
