March 3, 2015 - Icky Illness

Tuesday, March 03, 2015

Okay, so I'm in the camp that getting sick once or twice a year is good for you. Immune system, white blood cells, yadda yadda.

But I hate - absolutely HATE when the sickness manifests as a sore throat for two days before evolving into a stuffed nose. Nothing saps my energy and makes me feel worse than inflammation in the throat. It hurts, there's not much you can do to relieve it, and you sound like the crypt keeper. The worst part is at my job I wind up doing a lot of talking to our members.

Now, they encourage you to stay home when you're sick at my current job (which is a dream compared to the last, where they actively scolded you for it), but I'm in that weird middle ground where I don't feel quite -sick- enough to not work. My brain still functions, I'm not foggy (much). It's just my dang throat. emoticon

I took some Comtrex to try and soothe the symptoms and I've been popping Luden's throat lozenges like candy.. Ibuprofin for the pain, too. At least if I can get through today and tomorrow at work I'll have a couple of days off to rest..

I just feel BAD calling in sick. It's a guilt I can't shake, mostly because our department is usually spread pretty thin. I hate feeling like I'm leaving my coworkers to fend for themselves. On the other hand, I work with a lot of elderly volunteers and I'd hate to get them sick.. it feels like there are no good options (aside from not getting sick in the first place, but that's impossible when you work with the public).

Anyway, lots of whining there, sorry! haha. Hopefully this will be gone in a few days and I can get back on track. I'm trying to listen very carefully to my body and not overdo anything, but I also don't want to use this as an excuse NOT to exercise. I LIKE exercising. Huff.

I hope you're all doing well and staying healthy!

I completely understand. I feel the same way because I work at a daycare, and If I get sick it's usually because of the kids but I still don't want to spread it around further. Management has a tendency of saying oh if your sick its fine stay home but if you do, the'll talk crap about you to everyone smh. so I tend to suck it up and just go to work lol I hope you feel better!! emoticon

Well, if it helps you feel better, you're not so contagious when you're taking medicine that slows down your symptoms. It's when everything is really messy that you're the most contagious, like when you're sneezing all over the place or coughing on people. Remember to cough on your sleeve, not your hand! Hope you feel better soon!

I know how hard it is to be sick and feel like your job depends on you. But its okay to take time for yourself. It's hard to do a good job when you're not at 100%.

    Hope you feel better soon.

It's okay to be whinny when you are sick. Just rest and take it easy and listen to your body and you will be back to exercising soon enough. I am just like you, I hate missing my work out and want to be better right now.

    Get well soon
