Really? dang ads

Thursday, February 19, 2015

I get it that SP probably gets funding for having ads on their site - but really, in two places I have Jets deep dish pizza duos complete with photos popping up? What happened to healthy food ads?

Please go away. I didn't come here for temptations - there are enough of them in the real world!

I got frustrated with that too! Somehow I was able to block the pop ups
so I don't see all those anymore. I wish I can remember how I did it? I hope someone else might know.

Thanks for the advice folks! Just got an ad blocker, myself. Enjoying SP much more now (without all the annoyances).

Barb, I always enjoy reading your blogs. I can really relate to what you have to say, and love your way of stating things. Thanks! Nice to know there's someone else in town feeling the same way I do. LOL

Today's pop up was for a product to "de-perkify nipples" UGH!

It amazes me that there are more ads for unhealthy things on this site than for healthy items. Sad. They even get by my pop-up blocker.

I remember they had candy on one time too. I have an ad block. Helps with loading time.

SparkPeople likely doesn't choose which ads run on their site. The company that they've signed the advertising agreement with does. Ads (on most sites, really) are usually chosen based on your browsing history - delete your browsing history and cookies, and you'll see them become much more random (non-targeted). For example, I was browsing sites about glasses, and now I keep seeing ads for Clearly Contacts.

    Hope that helps!!

Unless you're on your phone, you can get an add-on to your web-browser to block all internet ads.

I haven't seen an internet ad on my home computer since 2010.
