Freedom to choose is freedom to live

Monday, February 16, 2015

Time to be diligent about journaling my life. I am determined today to commit to a healthy life. There are many blessings I need to earn. I read that if we always received the consequences of our choices right away, we would never learn to have faith. So that is what I need to develop more of--faith.

I need to develop faith in my Heavenly Father and his long term promises. I need to have faith in Jesus Christ and in the Holy Ghost that they will stick by me and give me support in my time of need. And I need to have faith in myself, that making a hard choice today will be worth it in 6 months when I reach my goal. That is the hardest part.

For so many years, I have used food as a reward for everything. I see people all around me getting to eat anything they want, with no consequences. Even though I tell myself that I can't see what they do in the rest of their life, I see myself as a victim, unable to enjoy that cookie or doughnut.

But no longer. I am not a victim, I am a daughter of God with the power to choose. I choose a healthy life, both today and 30 years from now. I choose to no longer use food as a reward, but to give myself rewards that have lasting value.

I have gratitude for my body and all the things it can do. I want to treat it as the precious gift it is. And I will continue to write so these commitments remain fresh in my mind.
