Travel, Food, and Work

Monday, January 19, 2015

I was gone for a week for work and just getting my local-land-legs again. Living out of a hotel room, it's difficult to stay on track, especially with no way to cook (though there is a fridge, so some things were possible). I need to figure out how to manage that part of my work trips better. In any case, I didn't stray (too far). Mostly ate salads when out to eat, with the exception of one night when the restaurant of choice was Italian and the lasagna was too tempting ... but only ate half and had it with a salad (Caesar, mostly avoided the croutons, at all the Parmesan). I discovered during that week that I must really, really like Caesar salad because I think I ate it three or four times. :)

The hotel had a gym but I never made it there, instead walking around town for exercise when possible, and mostly just eating as carefully as I could. I didn't track my food on SP but I did keep track on paper. And I think it was a pretty good week because my progress continued.

The one downside of my week was the sleep part. Time change, jet-lag, plus my usual difficulty with falling asleep made for a tough time sleep-wise. This weekend I've made up for it and am finally feeling rested and wide awake at mid-morning. But still glad for the day off.

You can count it as a success when you make the best choices possible under difficult circumstances. Good for you.

You did very well. I travel sometimes, I usually pack a few healthy snacks (dried apricots, nuts, healthier energy bar) just to keep me from temptations at the hotel (late at night sometimes the only options in the vending machine are candy or chips!)

Walking in the city is great exercise. Way to go!

You did well considering, and you have some exploration to do for future trips. It's not easy, but it's do-able. Sometimes you just do best you can and call it good. Enjoy your recovery day off!
