Happy 2015 and time-savers

2014 was a great year... I'm ready to see what 2015 has to bring! The end of 2014 brought some big changes when I got my new job. Going from part-time to full-time was quite an adjustment (I'm used to having a day or two off during the week to get errands done or stuff around the house done). Overall, I feel like I've adjusted pretty well. The first challenge was getting dinner on the table at a reasonable time after I got home from work. The first week it was around 7:30 by the time we ate and I cleaned the kitchen. But then I found a wonderful website that helped so much! I had searched Pinterest for freezer meal ideas and found several through www.sixsistersstuff.com that had three different plans to make either 5, 8, or 10 different meals in less than two hours. They give you a grocery list (I did find out after doing this a couple times that I like to add a little extra meat than they suggest, gives enough for a leftover lunch for the next day, and my husband usually eats 2 chicken breasts, not one). The meals are EASY. You put the meat (uncooked, except if it's ground turkey/beef) and add everything else to a ziplock freezer bag and stick it in the freezer. When you're ready for the meal, take it out the day before to thaw in the freezer then stick it in the crockpot. Easy-peasy! We have enjoyed the recipes a lot. Since I've done these several times now, I have mixed and matched the menu and even doubled some of our favorite recipes (it's easy to make 2 bags of the same thing while you have everything out anyways). This plan has saved quite a bit of money since I do one big shopping trip, then the next week we only need a few things (fresh produce, milk, and maybe bread). The first time through the groceries will be more expensive due to buying all of the meat, but I have found out that week two balances it out and I always had extra grocery money in our budget. Such a life-saver time-wise!

Other things that have helped me adjust to full-time hours: I get up early enough to read my Bible and have some coffee, then get my workout in BEFORE work. I don't think I'd get my workout in after work since something always comes up, and that is the time I want to focus on family. Also, I use my lunch break for either running errands (I'm amazed at how much I can get done in an hour. Luckily my house is close by, so I've been able to run groceries home and put the cold stuff away real quick. I've also used this time to meet with friends for lunch or coffee. That was something I was missing from part-time, but they have all be gracious enough to work around my schedule... I'm still trying to come up with a good cleaning schedule. I usually do at least one load of laundry a day (having two boys and my husband and I both work out= lots of laundry!) I usually do all of my ironing on Sunday evenings so everything is ready for the week... Thinking about using the "Flylady" system again, but altering it to work towards my family's needs...

    Sounds like you've gotten really organized! I'll have to check out that website. I guess if you're eating it, the crockpot meals must be pretty healthy, right? A lot of my old crockpot meals were not too healthy, so I've shied away from using it. How is the new job itself going?

    I'm going to have to check out that web site! It sounds like a great idea for those hectic times when everything is happening at once and nothing is ready for dinner. I, like you have to work out before work. If I wait until after, it's too easy to say I'm tired and want to go home. If I work out first thing in the morning, the rest of my day just goes better.
