Day 65 Stimulus Narrowing

Saturday, November 01, 2014

Today's lesson is quite simple. When you find your mind start to wonder to the crackers in the cupboard, or the ice cream bar in the freezer, or the last piece of anything left over from dinner, JUST SAY NO! If you know that this is set in your mind and you practice it enough, your mind will stop wondering to these places. Is it brainwashing? Maybe. Is it good for you? YES!

Stimulus narrowing is about not letting your brain start with the arguments or
rationalizations of why it is ok to eat something. If you set your brain to no, then stick to no as the answer.

emoticon working on that! someday even with trigger foods! methinks it gets better with practice.

actually, the just say no didn't really turn the trick for me... when I reframe it as "stop, this hurts me like a red hot stove" ~ caution/beware ouch, pain alert dead ahead ~ I have found my inner 2 yr old child respects the severity of that better. Maybe my stop sign should be a red hot stove on my fridge? hmmmm...

Agreed. Even better is having an answer in its place! When I say no, I also say "Get out your crochet." It let's me do something with my hands instead of grabbing the food. Before you know it, I've forgotten about it!
