Day 62 - Non-food triggers

Tuesday, October 28, 2014

Habits that involve foods is a huge trigger for me. In fact I would say that this is perhaps the biggest area that I have to constantly work on. This can be the habits that were created at a very young age, like eating popcorn with movies, having pizza for special family events, potato chips for holidays, candy, cookies, etc for any special occasion. It is also the eating a bowl of ice cream before bed, the special Starbucks coffee every morning before work, and the hot dog when shopping at Costco. The triggers are everywhere and they are not always from just seeing a commercial or smelling cookies baking as you walk past a bakery.

I used to have a lot of emotional triggers, such as frustration at work or struggles with family life. Thank goodness I am retired and my children are full grown and doing pretty well in their lives at the moment. All of my family is healthy, so no stress there. So I have pretty much recovered from the emotional triggers. I know that life is always fragile and at anytime this delicate balance could teeter, so I keep watch for the times when I am feeling vulnerable.
