You will be missed

Thursday, September 18, 2014

The other day I had half of a blog put together. I copied and saved what I had written thank goodness, because my computer froze. My computer started running again, but went into snail mode. I got frustrated, so decided to run over to Albertsons, and finish the blog when I got back. Albertsons is real close to our home. A 2 minute drive. I grabbed what I needed grocery wise. I had to buy my favorite drink, Peppermint Mocha, from Starbucks that is inside the store. I have a friend who is the manager of Starbucks at Albertsons. The sweetest person ever. She has Horses. When we were looking for a new place to board our Horses a few years ago she asked if I wanted to board at her place for a real reasonable fee. We would do the feeding and cleaning up after our Horses. She lives in the hills, and there are nice trails there to ride. We were looking forward to riding together. However, she was renting her home, and the person that owned the home didn't want to be responsible for a border. So that canned that idea. Anyway, I would see Kathy now and then and we would chat...I hadn't been to Albersons for about a month, and I want to kick myself for not going there sooner. After they gave me my coffee, I started to walk out of the store, when I noticed a framed picture of Kathy with "we love you" and pretty roses around the frame. I thought "oh, it must be her birthday. I will have to come back". Then I saw "In loving memory". I about passed out. It took everything I had to keep from bursting into tears. I asked the gals that worked behind the counter what happened. They said Cathy died 3 weeks ago of natural causes. Not only was I stunned, Dennis was as well. I am 64, and Cathy was about 10 yrs. younger then me. You just never know what is going to happen in life. Like I said Kathy was the sweetest person. Always a smile on her face. I never saw her in a bad mood. Even when she wasn't feeling well (cold etc.) she was friendly. I loved her red hair. In the summer she would get little freckles that crossed her nose, and they blended in with her red hair. She was cute as can be. I told Dennis I wanted to buy a new plant in her honor and put it in one of my pots. We went to Lowes and I found a red Mum. Perfect. Here is Cathy. I hope her spirit enjoys the Mum's that I bought for her.

Later that day, our Daughter informed us she was giving her bird, Oro, to a friend of hers. I love her bird, but Kathryn thinks her allergies have been acting up due to the bird...I can't blame here there...The minute Oro heard me get up in the morning he would call to me. I tried teaching my birds the "wolf whistle", but the only bird that caught on was Oro lol. I was a bit worried about a new home for Oro though. Some Parrots have a hard time adjusting. When Kathryn's friend came to get Oro, I remembered her from the beauty school Kathryn went to. She is a sweet girl. A quiet demeanor. So Oro should be ok. The gal lives not far from us, so at least we can go visit Oro. I had just taken these pics of Oro, so thought I would share them. It is quieter without him here. What a beautiful bird.

Sorry this blog is a bit of a bummer. I have a ton of pictures to upload, and the rest of my blogs will be of good cheer.

Gasp....I'm SO sorry to hear about the beautiful Kathy! This makes me happier than EVER that the hubs and I took our long road trip vacation this summer. It's something we've NEVER done and it was SO much fun!

It's so true...we MUST live every day to it's fullest and enjoy life's roses whenever we can! The hubs and I are pretty much work~a~holics...now with he 67 and me 62...No MORE!

It's SO sad to lose someone so young...but if death does anything it taps us on the shoulder and says...don't forget to LIVE!

Thanks for sharing your story...it's a good reminder and one that I'll remember for a good long while!

    Hugs my friend! emoticon

How desperately sad about your pretty friend Kathy. It must have been a terrible shock for everyone who knew and loved her. She looks to have been a really nice lady - an infectious smile.

Oro is a lovely Senegal parrot - we have two, but they are notorious at pulling their feathers. We've spent a fortune on avian vets, clinical tests, toys, cages, lighting - you name it! Our hen bird Mary has to have hormone implants every 6 months, too, as she has chronic egg production issues. Last year, just after our GSD x Rotti had to have her front leg amputated due to osteosarcoma (it never rains, but it pours!) I had to drive long distance (on a Sunday too, so it was even more expensive!) to an avian vet, as Mary was huffing and puffing and looking stressed; I knew she was in a potentially dangerous situation. She had to be admitted to the veterinary hospital and anaesthetised, as an egg was stuck sideways. The vet had to collapse it internally and withdraw it manually. She had to stay at the hospital for two nights and when I went to collect a much better Mary, the bill was £370 - around $550!!! (Gulp! It was nearly as much as Sarah's amputation! But our Senegal bit the vet, too, so that told the people there what she thought of the bill, haha!) But at least we had our Mary home again and if I hadn't gone, she'd have had nasty end. Senegals can be incredibly difficult to rehome, adults can be so nervous of change - I do hope you get to see Oro often as I'm sure he'll appreciate that. Please let us know how he goes on.

Do you know why your friend died? 'Natural causes' is such a catch-all term and not normally used for one so young. I'm a few months younger than you, but it is scary indeed and I can fully understand how you felt when you saw the picture. I love the Mum idea - lovely.

I'm so sorry about your friend, and I know exactly what you mean by the shock. You're right, we never know how much time we have left here, or how much time is left to anyone in our lives.

I'm sorry, too, about the loss of your "grandbird," though at least you can visit. No need to apologize that your blog was more down than usual - it lets everyone know you're a whole person. :)

I am soooo sorry for the loss of your friend, Cathy. I guess you just never know! Also about Oro! Why is she giving to someone that isn't you? You seem to be quite close to the feathered friend!
Hope you have a Fabulous Friday, Jeanne!
ps When my computer freezes, I just shut it down and reboot. Sadly it usually needs a reboot every 24 - 48 hours, but it's an easy fix!

Life is precious. My father in-law is having surgery tomorrow for an abdominal aortic aneurysm. The doctor is also concerned about growths he saw on his liver and pancreas. He 's a tough guy. So I'm hoping for the best.

Oh sweetie...I am so sorry about your friend. It is okay to talk about it, to lean on your friends here for support. Life is too difficult and strange at times to try to understand it on our own. Talking and sharing are ways we make it more bearable. I am glad you shared her with us. She seemed absolutely lovely and kind. I'm also glad you felt comfortable sharing her with us because we care about what you are feeling. Sad or happy, we want to be here for you. That is what friends are for...

My thoughts and prayers are with you and her family. Big hugs...

Thank you for sharing your pictures with us. Oro reminds me of my bird Arnold I had so many years ago...

I come from a big family (7 boys and 7 girls) but I have lost four siblings...three younger than me (I'm 62) so I have learned that we absolutely must live each day as if it were our last.
So sorry about the loss of your friend.
