Super Dawg

SUPER DAWG
I am Super Dawg, neither young or old
My job is to protect and serve
A lot of protect and not too much serve
I live with two humans, very different from each other
They like each other a lot
Because they are elderly and vulnerable I will protect them from many
things in this world that threaten their lives.

The older of the two is Him
He is a little grouchy and
gets on her nerves when he blows
He takes me on many walks
and he lets me drink from the lake
Often he sits by me and pets me
He pretends like he doesn't care
but his touch is soft and tender.

Then there is HER: she from whom all good things flow
She gives me fresh, sweet water, kibbles, and little goodies mixed in
And when I am sure it can't get better
she gives me cookies, not one but several
I follow HER around just in case.

The other day we were out on a walk
A huge beast was standing on the path
It was brown/black with funny bony things
Next to it's ears and very long legs
It was huge and just standing there
I leaped into action and gave chase
So surprised it was, it ran
First into the bush at one side of the road
And then it doubled back and stood there again
Again I gave chase and this time it didn't come back.
OF COURSE I DID, AFTER ALL, I AM SUPER DAWG!

This poem was written about an incident with our much loved shepherd mix dog who was 6 when he came into our lives and stayed till he was 11. At that time he was training an adorable puppy to look after us when he got ill and died. I have put it in at the request of a Spark friend with whom I word spar.

Gina, this is a beautiful poem. You must miss him a lot. I just got a chihuahua dog a month ago for my DH. So the dog can keep him company and gives him a hope and joy. Today we got another one to keep him (the dog) a company . So seems like all suddenly, we became parents of two dogs. They are so cute and already become a big part of our lives. Can't think of losing them. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
