Yesterday was the perfect day for a long drive and a long walk to go with it. We had joined a wine club back a few months ago so we had to go to Hasting's MN to pick up our 6 bottles from the Vineyard that I posted a blog about a few weeks ago. Hastings in 1/2 way between the cities and Red Wing so we thought we would make a day of it and go exploring in Red Wing.
Here are some of the great photos that we took along the way. It was cool but sunny.
The mighty Mississippi
A former train station, now a historic part of the city and museum.
a perfect day for a walk in the park.
A veterans war memorial
A gorgeous flower bed
The historic St. James Hotel entrance.
As we were wondering along, we came upon the Sheldon Theatre. We had passed
this theatre by in the past, but today we stopped in and asked if we could see the inside.
I am so glad we did, the gentleman turned on the lights for us and we were able to see this beautiful theatre that was built in 1904 and was described as a "jewel box" Truly that is what it looked like. Gorgeous would not even begin to describe it. The seats were all red crush velvet and the stage and ceiling were old fashioned with balcony's. Here are a few pics that capture just a little of the beauty of it.
It was time for lunch after this and so we stopped at Liberty's which is older restaurant
just off of Main Street.
While we were sitting and relaxing, my husband was looking out the windows and noticed that it looked like people were climbing the bluffs that look out over Red Wing. He told me he debated for at least 10 minutes as to whether he should tell me because he knew that I would want to climb them if he let me know. Well, against his better judgement, he did indeed tell me and of course the first thing I said is, "oh, we should go!"
So we asked the waitress how to get there and off we went! It is a pretty steep climb and quite a path to maneuver through and we did get off the main path a couple of times and had to back track, but it was worth it in the end! Here are a few pics of the beauty that we were blessed with during and at the end of the bluff!
And now just a couple more beautiful pictures of Red Wing.
The Court House
A beautiful mural painted on the side of a building.
Thanks for joining me for a day in Red Wing, MN!
Have a great Sunday and keep on sparking!
