The power of touch

We all need to be touched & Loved.
While visiting my Sweet hubby at the nursing home one of the residents is always trying to standup from his wheelchair which in turn causes the staff members to shriek his name constantly. This also unnerves the other 1 or 2 fellows with the same name. I have been trying to get to know him. At first I misunderstood him & thought that he was an artist. He finally corrected me & told me that he was a dentist. I told him that I still giving him credit for being an artist because most dentists are. He has an amazing smile.
Today the staff were called to a meeting. Fortunately for the residents in the lunchroom I was there along with a private Nurse who followed my lead at keeping an eye on the residents present. When my pal started trying to stand up again I went to him & offered him a shoulder massage which he really appreciated because his shoulder actually was hurting. I also got him the special - thickened water to quench his thirst. The pvt. Nurse massaged hi when I stepped away. He got so spoiled emoticon I was proud of our teamwork.

Teamwork works best in a nursing home and you did good.

I worked many years as a nurse in a nursing home and the patients respond so well to gentle touch and an understanding and compassionate tone.

    Good for you
