New streak!!! I'm back!

Monday, August 18, 2014

Was off for a family vacation last week. We ventured to Canada to Toronto and to the Niagara Falls area. I must say, "There's no place like home". We had a great trip, but it was so good to return home and sleep in my own bed and get back to my quiet little life!

So here's the gang (minus me taking the pic) waiting for the ferry on the Toronto Islands.

and here is one of me and my son Jack

Lot's of memories made!

Bad part - I did not have internet access most of my time away - so disconnected from Spark and my 5% summer challenge team. My spark login streak ended, but another begins today! Other bad part - I was pretty much on everyone else's schedule, which was sleeping in, eating meals off schedule, eating fast food much of the time because there were no other options left in the small town in which we were staying at the time of night we found ourselves eating dinner!

Even worse part. As of today, I found the scale reading 185.6 which is up 6 lbs from where I was on Friday when I left. Hopefully it won't continue it's upward climb over the next couple days and will return back to closer to where I started!

I must admit, I am looking forward to getting back to my schedule of walking and healthy eating! Unfortunately, it isn't going to happen today as far as the walking goes - I have so much laundry to catch up on and bills to pay, mail to read - that I will be spending my evening playing catch up. But tomorrow morning it will be up early and on the treadmill!

Feeling fortunate and blessed to have had a wonderful week away with my family! Grateful for a safe trip, love and laughter, giggling girls, the beauty of the world around us and the opportunities to explore!

So here we go! Day one of another streak!

Sounds like you had a very nice trip, good for you! And I am glad that you are not beating yourself up for the weight gain. It is what it is and you know what you have to do to get back on track. The most important part is that you got to spend time with your family!

I moved to a small town with mainly fast food options and very limited at that. House hunting here and having to eat out was difficult for my diet! So I now what you mean!

I grew up in the Buffalo, NY area, so I can imagine some of where you were. IT is a beautiful area, but like you, there is no place like home and that is not home, anymore.

Thank you for the blog. It is a good reminder of the challenges we face when enjoying ourselves. What is designed to be good can lead to setbacks in other areas of our lives.

For those anticipating their trips, pre-planning may help alleviate falling onto unhealthy traps. deciding to get up at the same tie, regardless the rest of our family, planning meals and even buying certain nonperishables to help avoid the fast food calories and finding WiFi hotspots might help.

The good news is you had a great vacation with your family, which helps your relationships. That improves your mental and social health. I imagine you did quite a bit of walking. That improves your physical health. There is synergy in all that, which continues to increase your health.

(I have blogging on SparkPeople, coining the term "Health Star," because there are 5 points to our health and we should shine bright as healthy people.)

Perhaps the greatest part of al this is YOU'RE BACK! A small blip in the monitor line of health did not flat line you. You continue and will be healthier in the end.
