Training Again!
Sunday, August 17, 2014
It has been a tough few months... as we moved for the first time in more than 17 years! I don't feel completely settled in & I have some work to do on the old house still, but we are moved. And, I've been running consistently now for a month. I miss my SP friends & the support & just sharing the good & the bad. So, I'm back! And, I'm training again... this time for a 10 mile race in October. It's my second time to run this race, & I want to PR!
It has been REALLY hot here! I did my long run today, 6 miles, & the heat index was in the mid-80's even at 7 am! But, I had a wonderful run. Last week I did a 5 miler & it was really tough & I had to walk a LOT. So, it was thrilling to have such a great run today.
I've been having a lot of great runs:
One of them was a modified 1/4 mile repeat. Instead, I was running for 3 minutes at a time, then walking for one. But, I was going for speed. I ended up averaging 11:15 minutes a mile which is a wonderful time for me! And, the last mile was under 11:00!
The other run was on a treadmill. It's the first time I've been to a gym in many months! I was doing 3 minute repeats on those, too, but each time I'd make the treadmill go faster. I did two of those at 11:06, then two at a click faster, & two faster, & the last two were at 10:32 which is really out of my comfort zone!
Another was trying to go for distance without walking. Over the past month, I've been working up my running time (since I usually do a run/walk). I started at only 2 minutes & kept adding a minute at a time until I got to 7 minutes. Also, I often run the entire last mile! Well, on one of my runs this week I ran for 2 miles without walking! Then I ran the 3rd mile, too!
Today's run I went with a 4:1 because it was SO HOT & because I didn't want to burn out like my last run. That run, I did terrific on the first two miles & then it all just fell apart. So, I knew I needed to take it easier. And, it worked!
My daughter starts school (high school!) in a week & I have two possibilities for running groups. I really have mixed feelings about those as I love being with a group to chat, for safety & it just makes the time go by faster. But, I love challenging myself & listening to my body. So, I might run with a group 2 of 3 days a week or something.
I look forward to catching up with all of my SP friends! I hope you are doing great this summer & are ready for a fantastic fall!
